Take a look at the wide side

Ever since getting my camera I’ve been expanding on my lens arsenal. After getting the tele last year, I wanted a wide angle one. With a little bit of unexpected money I finally got myself one and took it out for a stroll. Sadly the day was overcast and the light faded too early, but I like what you can do with it.

Small pond

That little pond is probably 3m across. You can also see that at 10mm, I have to decide between a UV filter or a CPL filter because both are too much.

Part of my daily walk. The little green building is a water station.

One of the fun things: shooting up trees. The lens makes it look like the trunk is 100m high.

The trees are tall and narrow, but the lens adds some more.

I’ve been wanting to take pictures of those cut off and dead vines for ages, but I couldn’t with my other lenses because I couldn’t move away enough. to give you an ides, this pic and the other two were taken by minimally moving the camera.

Another illusion of distance. In reality, the point where You can see the branch is about 2m from where I took the pic.

Cool! The last one is indeed wonderful and it’s making me think you could probably do some amazing night sky photography with this lens.

Also, I’ve never shot at that focal length and I guess that until I do I’m not believing that “little” pond is 3m across…

I find landscape shots taken with a wide angle lens replicate the effect of the varifocal lenses in my glasses which gives me an idea of the actual size things are likely to be and a grasp of the distortions too.

Good work, it looks like you are going to have a lot of fn with your new lens!

Ooh, fun with new lenses! My favourite is shooting up the tree.
I predict many more fantastic photography posts from you, I must be psychic!

Wonderfully creative pictures. The up shots are incredible. They remind me of a kids show from when I was young called The Friendly Giant. Every show opened up with the giant saying “Look up. Look Waaay up” as the camera panned up from his boots to his face. I’m looking forward to seeing what else it can do. Have fun!

The vignetting on several photos shouldn’t be there (unless it’s intentional, which I doubt). Might be a mismatch between lens hood/filter and the focal length of the lens.
