These photos were sent in by Opus and were taken in a bristlecone pine grove near Lone Pine, California. I think they make a brilliant set. Their beauty is stark and tortured and they evoke feelings of tenderness and vulnerability in me. Well captured, Opus. I’m so glad you shared them. Thanks.

I so love the colours.
The warmth of the wood stands out against the snow on the ground. Beautiful.
These are really amazing. It makes me I wish I had the gear that I have now back when I was in US national parks.
As said, the colours are lovely. Also, the the corkscrew twist of the wood grain is wonderful.

I meant to add a link and forgot. This subspecies includes the longest living individual trees in the world, with at least one surpassing 5,000 years.

These are such beautiful images. And the trees themselves! Survivors and I do hope they can survive the coming years.
The way they contrast the background almost looks as if they were pasted on.
I want to touch -- the way the wood grain curves and twists, I want to feel that.
