Pollination Party – Butterflies 1

Nightjar has sent some exquisite butterfly pictures. I love the first one. The contrast between the blue butterfly and pink blossom is just amazing, and the focus is simply perfect.

Blues have gotten downright rare in my area though they used to be common -- but that extends pretty much to all butterfies.

They’re all wonderful!! I do love me some blues, but the second has expression and I love the motley of the third.

I like the blue, but the motly of the tird is gorgeous. We’ve had hardly any butterflies this year, the ones we have had have almost all been cabbage whites.

All three butterflies have their own way of being gorgeous. Radiant blue, rust edged greenish yellow and the stylized scenery of the wings.

What I like about all the pictures are the different kinds of visual contrasts and similarities of the flowers with the butterflies.

Thanks, everyone! My favourite is also the first one, it was the first time a blue opened its wings like that for me and stood long enough for a photo. That female Holly Blue made me so happy.

The flowers are all pink zinnias, all of a different shade of pink. I don’t know what happened this year, almost all the zinnias turned out pink, with only a few red and orange ones. There’s usually more colour variety. But the insects don’t care.

They’re all gorgeous, and the first shot is amazing, but the second is my favourite. I love the delicate yellows and greens against the bright pink. The contrast helps highlight that tiny circle on the butterfly’s wing.
