Sailing into Uglich

Our first port of call after leaving Moscow was the beautiful and ancient city of Uglich, which lies on the southern portion of the Volga River. These photos were taken just after we slipped through yet another lock and our ship headed towards the landing dock at Uglich. Most photos are below the fold.

Beautiful pictures. The cathedrals are straight from fairytales.

Are those “twin” Corinthian columns an Uglich specialty or do they occur elsewhere.

Sorry Ice Swimmer about taking so long to respond to your question. The answer is no, we did not see double Corinthian columns anywhere else. Lots of single columns, especially in St. Petersburg which is filled with lots of grand buildings and palaces.

It’s all right. I had forgotten that I asked. I’ve never seen double columns like that, not even in any pictures, so I got curious. So, it’s probably an Uglich thing.
