Those are some creepy red eyes! And I’m not sure I like the conspiratory way they’re looking into the camera… I don’t believe they’re just out for a collective drink of water.

Aah, they’re lovely birds, really, not vicious at all! I think….

I spent last weekend at this farm assisting with the olive harvest and this fountain was the only free water for a kilometre in any direction. So I tried to look like a tree stump with the camera and spy on the various species of birds coming to drink. They would mob the fountain for a few minutes until driven off by the next gang, and these were the only ones I captured with reasonable sharpness. Unfortunately for my camera it was heavily overcast but fortunately for the dry dry farmland there was a good 8mm of rain later that day.

Just give us a sign if they’re holding you hostage. The words “flower-lovely-blue” in a sentence will trigger an international rescue mission.

It’s not just the eyes, those curved beaks look pretty vicious too.

Lofty what do they actually eat? They look like they ought to be tearing chunks of meat from still warm prey and laughing as they throw it into the air, before catching it and swallowing it.

The real evil has to be on the white wings they’re hiding. I mean, if this is what they show, what are they keeping out of our sight.
