I’m so baffled by the interest in “royal weddings” that seems to flare up every so often. This time it’s barely royal at all — as I understand it, the groom is something like sixth in line to the throne, right? Meaning his chance of becoming Grand Poobah of the UK is basically nil.

Hey, sometime they should all queue up behind Granny Liz in a sort of conga line, or maybe at a fish-n-chips truck. That would make a cute photo.

He’s a direct descendent of a reigning monarch. Rather than “barely royal,” that’s actually a pretty fair definition of the word “royal.”

That said, the number of people who seem willing to bend the knee to a bunch of rich, privileged parasites is truly sickening.

    That’s some master grade trolling
Having said that, the only thing worse than this fukken wedding clogging all media, social or traditional is people trying to shame you on social media for not liking that shit.
It’s worst when usually socially conscious people who get ideas of dynamics try to chastise you as “elite” and “too cool” and “trying to take away people’s pleasure” when you get 24/7 royal wedding and those of us not interested barely get a chance to ignore that shit because it’s being pushed everywhere.

I wonder what & how many policy announcements have been conveniently made under the shadow of this wedding?

Also whether my nation (Oz) will be embarrassed if England becomes a Republic before we do.

Nothing against the couple involved here -- well okay the groom dressing up as a nazi years ago still kinda shits me & I think still reflects really badly on him (But who am I to talk here, people do change & I for sure know and can relate to that, shrug.) -- but the .whole institution of a hereditary monarchy in this century? No, just fuck no.

Not everyone who turns out or shows interest is particularly interested in royalty or support it. A lot are taking advantage of the day out, the spectacle, and an event everyone is doing together (something I got a taste of myself when working one of the water stations at the London Marathon a few weeks ago, which I had not hitherto experienced or thought of).

Also, Prince Harry is popular as a person, not just as a prince. Even though the things he does that make him popular are only possible by being a prince.

Who wouldn’t want to be able to have mounted guards with sabers riding around clearing the people off the path in front of you? I gotta say it’s appealing. Now, can I have a mounted guard for my Facebook? What? I’m not a monarch?
