Jack and I decided to walk along the creek today and we found a big surprise. Goslings! They’re very young and we could only find the one family today, but there will certainly be more soon.

I started the hobby of rockhounding in January. I have been searching one of the local rivers for months now looking for agates (and doing quite well at it). About a month ago I stumbled upon a nest that a couple of northern geese had made that had four eggs in it. It was not hidden well, and I hoped that the goslings hatched safely. Two weeks ago I checked the nest and it was empty, no egg shells were to be seen. I feared the worst. Two days ago I went up to the river again and found the biggest agate ive found to date. Twenty minutes later I saw the two geese with four fluffy little goslings just like the one in your picture. It was a good day to be on the river.
Look at the patterns on the folded wings of the adults as well as on the breast, they’re beautiful!
Also, I didn’t know Canada goslings have yellow accents. They’re cute, aww.
So cute. I’ve never seen goslings in person.
I haven’t seen any barnacle goose goslings* (they’re a bit more gray and black than Canada goslings) yet this spring.

* = The head of an adult barnacle goose looks more like a barnacle than a gosling’s head.
Oh, what a perfect picture! I laughed with delight when I saw it. So very charming.
I sighted my first goslings yesterday. Four fluffy little things, a bit smaller than yours.
For some reason, we seem late in getting our normal mob of Canada geese. I have only seen four or five where we normally have thirty. A couple of hundred did pass overhead yesterday, that I noticed.
