Home.

Back home from chemo. I’ve done surprisingly well today, good energy, and constantly stuffing my mouth, which makes for a grand change. We had a leisurely time after chemo was done, around 3 pm. We stopped at the bookstore, and I brought home a stack of books, as usual. And then we had an exploratory trip through the new Co-op market, they have some very impressive produce at reasonable prices, so we’ll definitely be back. Then we did our regular market shopping and headed home. I’m hoping tonight won’t have any nasty surprises. Anyroad, I’m going to go cuddle up with a book and my giant glass of Nesquik/Malted Milk/Ovaltine. I am not setting my clock, so when I show up tomorrow, who knows, might be rather late in the morning.

As for the stack of books, none of these authors are known to me, so an adventure. I started Midnight At The Bright Ideas Bookstore on the way home because I am a complete sucker for any book which takes place in a library or bookstore setting. I’m not far in, but I already love many of the characters, and there’s a delicious horror-type mystery unfolding in this wonderfully odd bookstore.

I’ll see you all tomorrow sometime.

    Glad you had a good day, yay for new books and lots of eating, enjoy the milky malty scrummy-ness (I like malt too) and sleep well. The coop sounds good, always good to have decent produce and reasonable prices available.

    Yay for taking in nutrients and esp. chocolatey and malty goodness. The books look promising, too, but then, most books look promising to me, until I start reading them. :D I hope they’re all, at the very least, fun and creepy bits of diversion!

    Good to hear things went better than in the past.

    That’s all good to hear, I hope you had a good night of sleep and didn’t wake up today feeling too poisoned.

    We are members in a co-op, and the food is very good and reasonably priced. They feature local products as much as possible.
    Plus, they have a voluntary “round-up” when you check out. They will round-up your total to the next dollar, then they use the funds for a worthy cause, like hunger relief. The latest campaign provides healthy food to hungry children in preschool, elementary school, and middle school every week. We are pleased to live in an area that supports such a thriving entity.

    Thank you all, I did much resting and much reading. Sorry for the disappearance, but I really needed another day’s rest. I felt okay on Thursday, but the nausea came on very strong, so I spent the day taking lots of nausea meds, getting myself into a reclining position, and reading and sleeping throughout the day into evening. I’ve found it’s just best to sleep as much as possible the day after chemo. Altogether, I’m feeling much better than I did the last two cycles. The nausea is sticking, so I’ll have to be careful there for another day or two, I think.

    I read Midnight At The Bright Ideas Bookstore and Within These Walls. I’ll happily recommend Midnight At The Bright Ideas Bookstore, it was a quick read with interesting characters, and the mystery illuminated what can happen when people make the wrong choices in life. As for Within These Walls, it was well written, if overblown a bit, but I found it to be bog standard horror. Nothing particularly original, and there wasn’t an interesting enough spin on it all. That leaves the Witch books. I was trepidatious when I decided to buy them, because they involve time travel. I have rarely read anything with time travel which makes the slightest bit of fucking sense, so I’m going in with low expectations. We shall see.

    The Co-op -- we aren’t members, we just had a cruise through and bought a few things. We still have to check out member requirements and all that. The store has a heavy ‘new age woo’ bent, which is a bit difficult to ignore, but the produce is really fabulous, so we might sign up anyway.

    I’m sorry for the nausea.

    I take it that co-operative shops are somewhat rare in th U.S.. I’m not sure if it’s a good or a bad thing, but here in Finland, the biggest retail chain (S) is a federation of co-ops. There isn’t that much difference between them and the privately owned shops in the other leading chain, K*. S tends to have slightly cheaper prices than K, but not as cheap as the (German) hard discounter chain Lidl.

    * = There’s also a smaller chain, M, and there used to be E and T.

    Co-ops were much more common several decades ago, and a great many of them were eaten alive by the ‘superstores’, such as Costco, Wal-Mart, and so on. It’s difficult for co-ops to thrive in the age of giant corporations. The co-op is also in an odd location, which won’t help, but if word gets around, and they can sign enough members, it has a real chance. We’ll be back, and as long as member fees are reasonable, we’ll most likely sign up.
