Water striders

I think it is time to get out the macro lenses. There were a lot of these on the pond at the end of my sewage disposal facility. I also saw a first butterfly at work and a first toad. The toad was in the plant, on the road where forklifts are driving so I took it carefully outside, over the road and into a grove.

I think it was last spring when I had the honour to swim with water striders. I swam deeper as surface tension doesn’t really carry me, I’ve had to rely on Archimedes’ principle. Charly’s macro lens brings them a bit closer. Neat to see the surface buckling under their feet.

I am looking out the window of a hospital room in St Cloud, Minnesota at a half-frozen Mississippi River. I envy you the water striders.
No emergency -- my mother’s biliary drain got blocked and had to be exchanged, but the local hospital doesn’t do that, so we drove for an hour in the early morning to the bigger hospital because we needed to be there Right Now and then sat around for hours before the doctor showed up.
Nice view, though. Lots of birds. Due to wind they go by pretty normally in one direction and very fast in the other.
