Oh, it’s a very fun, messy activity for them, and one or more would often be up to their chest in the water, All of them trying to get the ‘good’ veg first (peas and corn over carrots and green beans). I placed glass ‘stones’ in the bottom, then water, then frozen veg. Mal is holding one of the stones, shifting it to mine veg. :)

Aw, Amelia’s expression in the first photo… that’s just too much cute to handle.

I went down to the wishing well,
But the wishing well was occupied
By a pair of ratties with their handses so sweet,
Fishing their wishes and veggies besides.
If I could think a little more like a rat,
Perhaps I could steal up alongside,
And instead of distant dreams and possibilities,
Fish out the corn and peas and be satisfied.

Nightjar, Amelia was cute overload at all times.

Voyager, yes, it was very fun for them, and it was one way to cool them down in the hot days of summer. Of course, it was always a massive competition, and it always ended up a major clean up operation for me, but well worth it, just for photos alone. I have a number of fishing photos where they would be terribly excited, because all the veg hadn’t quite melted, and they were able to get very large chunks of veg out, which they would wrestle with in order to run off and stash the goods. I’ll have to find some of those.

Rats never give up their dreams or possibilities. They’re just practical about food. Like hobbits. :D And that’s a fabulous verse, too.

Oh yes, and rats are all about that, but there are always dreams of better and bigger thievery, and massive hoards of treasure.
