She stands on her own, but I can hear echoes of Suzanne Vega, Lauryn Hill/Fugees and even Amanda Palmer (her ukulele material) there, in the vocals and beats. The violin however really sets Sudan Archives apart, both the pizzicato and the bowed playing. She has some really dramatic “blue” notes there.

Oooh. Pretty -- her playing is stellar. Self-taught, you say?? Double-wow. I love her style, too. Very crisp and sensitive.
Also I want to visit that greenhouse, it’s lovely.

Yes, she taught herself after watching and listening to Sudanese fiddlers. :D I’m just blown away by that because I could never do that, not even over multiple lifetimes.
