    I do not know how true that story is, but I was told by a gamekeeper that herons can kill humans who try to sneak upon them. Not intentionally, but allegedly they can mistake the glinting eye for the glint of a small fish. I think it is just a tall tale, but I would not try and get close enough to them to test that hypothesis.

    There was a great blue that used to hang around a local lake here in Tucson (Silverbell Park). He learned to recognize the signs of fishing poles landing the local sunfish (aka bluegills). The locals would often toss the fish to the heron if they were too small to keep.

    That heron was well fed. :)

    Beautiful pose….was this one in the middle of something like landing or bird yoga or something?
