Mostly agreeing with rq @ 1. All are very nice especially the last and the first. I like the third because the pine roots(?) are so wonderfully twisty.

I think it’s a “horseshoe”, as in “nothing that was ever meant to be on the foot of a horse but that looks like it”. There are no visible holes that you’d need. We suspect that it used to be a road mark, probably to show where the horse track was.
