Also, Wonder Woman scored 97% on the Tomatometer. So, could all those people who just had be asses and insist the movie would totally suck because DC please be quiet now? Thanks.
I’m so excited for this I’ve actually teared up in joy reading a few reviews. She’s not there to wriggle her butt in a catsuit in contrived situations. She’s not there to prop up man-feels. She’s not there as the “girl” version of some more iconic, masculine character or because she was the romance object of said iconic, masculine character. She’s not some dreadful “strong female character” stereotype. She’s not a victim. She is kind and unapolegetically femme and driving her own story and a hero.
Oh, this this this this ^ Yaaasssss.
Every post I did, every trailer, there were always people, of the male persuasion, who just had to diss it, because DC. It did not fucking matter how much good you pointed out, nope, had to be an asshole. I’ve been hyped about this from the beginning, and the reviews are icing on the cake. Finally, a superhero I can love; one I can embrace. I don’t think men have the slightest fucking idea of just how big this is, how much this matters. All the white dudes, they’ve had every hero ever; they’ve every superhero ever. They’ve had generations to reduce women to whatever stupid stereotype. Finally, we have a true icon, and even now, I see “well, DC, y’know, blah blah blah”. Fuck all of them.
As well as, “What about Catwoman/Elektra/Supergirl?” As though a tiny handful of (far from recent) films about characters who only existed because of their connections to male icons make much of a difference.
Damn. Mark this one down for ‘must see in theatre’ and hope we don’t miss the deadline this time around.
If this in any way is comparable to Star Wars kid-friendly-wise, I would love to take the kids, too. And they would love it, I’m sure.
We’re heading into town on Monday to see it. I am so excited.

Oh yes, that too. As if any of those, as portrayed, could be an icon on their own. They were never allowed that, as you say, they were only there as far as they connected to the much more important and exciting actual hero, the dude.

The manuspherians complaining about this film might want to consider moving to Lebanon; the movie has been banned in there due to Gal Gadot’s service in the Israeli Defense Force (over which she had little choice by the way, considering it’s mandatory and all that.) She has been accused of being a Zionist before; this Facebook post seems to be the source of most of those claims.
I hardly ever go to the movies, but this looks like it might be worth it. I was a little girl when Lynda Carter played Wonder Woman and I loved that show, I even had Wonder Woman underoos :-D It’s been really touching to hear so many women talking about what the character means to them.
