Love is but a song we sing,
    fear’s the way we die
    You can make the mountains
ring, or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
and you may not know why

    C’mon people now,
    smile on your brother
    Ev’rybody get together, try to
    love one another right now

    Some may come and some
may go, we will surely pass
When the one that left us here
    returns for us at last
We are but a moments sunlight
    fading in the grass

    C’mon people now,
    smile on your brother
    Ev’rybody get together, try to
    love one another right now

    C’mon people now,
    smile on your brother
    Ev’rybody get together, try to
    love one another right now

If you hear the song I sing,
    you will understand (Listen !)
You hold the key to love and
fear all in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both,
    it’s there at your command

    C’mon people now,
    smile on your brother
    Ev’rybody get together, try to
    love one another right now

    C’mon people now,
    smile on your brother
    Ev’rybody get together, try to
    love one another right now
    (I said !)

    C’mon people now,
    smile on your brother
    Ev’rybody get together, try to
    love one another right now

    Right now !
    Right now !

Woot! That song was just about the beginning of circle dancing in the rocn ‘n roll world. Fifty or more of us in a big ring, holding on to strangers’ wrists, and believing that we could really make a difference!ah, youth!

Hell, maybe we CAN make a difference this time around…..

We have to make a difference. All us older types, we’ve done it before, and we need to be the fire to make it happen again.

I’ve signed it, but what will him finding out there exists a list somewhere of a few millions names that don’t like what he’s doing do? What’s compelling to him about that?

  5. says

Maybe it’s not so much about this affecting him, although if the letter achieves 6 million signers, it will be an impressive print out, it’s more about what is says about us. That we aren’t willing to stop, to lay down and be quiet, that we will continue to fight. That we are willing to reach out our hands, across the world, to forge an unbreakable chain.

Also, don’t underestimate just how much actions like this unglue him -- the more unglued he gets, the more the GOP will not be able to ignore that he needs to be kicked the fuck out.

This is too much like being back in the ’60’s and ’70s, not just with war and bigotry and the threat of nuclear war -- this time, nuclear war is hanging a lot fucking closer over our heads. What are we supposed to do, nothing?

Oh yeah, good point. I forgot about his fragile ego.

  8. coragyps says

Well, yes, Caine, you’re right. We really must make a difference. And I have sat on my ass for 47 years now and haven’t tried. Old Farts unite! There are bunches of us out here, and we need to do all we can to help the young whippersnappers take over. And on the justice side of the battle.
