    Yes, they are. Starlings show here every year, a large group of them always nests in a couple of trees outside my studio, but I have never been able to get a clear shot. They never show up at any feeding station, being prodigious bug hunters.

    More shades of black than in Death’s garden. Lovely birds, but I have only ever seen them in huge flocks in the sky. Occasionally some of them eat cherries in our garden until they cannot even move.

    I helped raise an orphan starling once. She was a lot of fun, and had a lot of personality.

    We get a lot here, mostly in the winter.
