    Take care of yourself.

I am no longer going for the spinal injections. When I was taking them, I felt fine for about four hours and then 24 to 36 hours of shit descended.

I feel for you. And I wish I could take some of your pain and discomfort off of your shoulders (well, your back) and make it my own.

Do not apologize (where have I heard that before?). Take care of yourself first.

Do what you need to do. No need to apologize. Return when you feel better.
I need to get moar coffee *grabs coffee cup and heads toward the kitchen*.

Ask the forty-foot high killer rats to stop stepping on you.

Unless, of course, that’s part of the therapy.

    And get better.

‘Morning! Thank you all so much. It’s so nice to sleep during the day, it’s my natural sleep time. I’m now surrounded by a wealth of soft pillows, and facing Athena, the new machine. Must get it set up. I forgot how much I hate that. Slowly getting a grip on win 10, where they’ve gone and hidden fucking everything, again, and finding out how to ignore all the shit they’ve done, and do what I want. Christ. You have to run a fricking command line to change the damn colours of the menu bars and such. Eeesh. Love the giganto screen though. The latest versions of Firefox well and truly suck, I won’t go over 43.0.1. I’d stay with 17 if gmail didn’t have a fuckin’ fit. (Talking a lot, side effect of the meds.) Great sound, too! I forgot what that was like. Right now I have both Hekate and Athena running, that’s kinda fun.

Multitool: spinal injections are used for both injuries to the spine and chronic/acute conditions. I have herniated discs and dual sciatica. The injections are steroidal in nature, so they are done once every 3 months in most cases. I have spinal injections, and multi-site neck and shoulder injections.

Lemme guess -- you had the ‘middle’ shots, right? I won’t allow them, did that twice, and they left me a complete miserable wreck for weeks. So, for me, it’s either a left or right injection only, depending on which side is bothering me the worst. It’s not the best solution, but the shots do help that way.

I usually got shots into the sciatic tendon, left and right, from right next to my spine all the way out. They finally did a procedure in which they placed some fine wires in the right place and excited them with microwave radiation to stop nerve transmission. I have had almost no back problem since then — it missed one spot right next to the spine which has been hurting pretty much constantly — and I hope it continues.

(This was from the on-the-job injury that lasted two and a half years)

Ohhh, haven’t had shots there. I wonder if the wire business would work for me, that sounds good. I’ve been having more trouble on the left lately, amped up and aggressive sciatic pain, shooting into the 2nd and 3rd toes, and staying for much too long. Sharp, with electrical edges. I could seriously live without it.

This post brought to you via Athena! I are getting there.

This was for chronic inflammation of the tendon itself. The way the doctor described it, the heat from the wires would cause swelling to gently pinch the nerve transmitting pain to my brain. Which would, hopefully, short-circuit the inflammation (if flammable and inflammable mean the same thing, would flammation and inflammation also be the same thing?), And it would appear that it has. All except that one spot. Which is minor pain — a constant low-level hot throb.

I was lucky and the injury (one cracked vertebrae, a torn muscle, and severe sprain of my sciatic tendon on both sides) did not lead to any irritation or pinching of the sciatic nerve. Hope the shots last long.

Yeeouch. The shots never last long, if I’m lucky, I get a whole 3 weeks. It’s a piss, but what can you do? One of the biggest problems is inflammation, but in a slightly different way. L5 is wide open, and when irritated, gets inflamed, swells with water, and fills up the sciatic notch, which kinda chokes the nerve, causing me all manner of difficulty. The neck and shoulder injections don’t last long either, but those are great, they give me at least two weeks of pain free working ability.

Thanks, Voyager. I’m set up for morning, but I might be straggling with new stuff for a few hours. I’m barely on the planet here!

Ogvorbis: Why do you want to know about my injury?
    .
Arthritis runs in my family. My mother has it in her spine and can barely walk. She’s had steroid injections, and in the last few years, two surgeries to fuse vertebrae and implant metal rods.
    .
I myself am getting it in my hands and feet. I was just curious if you and Caine had arthritis or something else.

    Makes sense.

I do have arthritis in my knee (four open surgeries, 9 a-scopes (so not that surprising)) and minor arthritis in my upper lumbar (that is non-symptomatic (the only way I know it is there is that it showed up on the cat scan). My back injury was an on-the-job twisting injury which broke on vertebrae, tore a couple of muscles, and set up tendon inflammation which lasted almost two years.

My mom has rheumatoid arthritis in her hands (tough for an artist) but she is managing it with steroids.

Some of the different arthritises out there are kind of scary.
