I was trying to read an article at Think Progress, but kept getting stuck staring at the photo. Yes, Melania Trump is obviously supposed to be the focus, but that’s not where my eye landed. Instead, all I could see was the face of the woman who got assigned or otherwise stuck with Trump. She looks incredibly uncomfortable, and embarrassed. The way Trump is hunched over is terribly creepy, too.

    I am socially inept, but what I read in that face is an expression “I am put in extremely uncomfortable position and I am trying to deflect that with a laugh.”
    It looks like he just said something lewd to her and she does not know how to react.
    Note that not only is he leaning towards her, but she is leaning away from him. So it is not that he stumbled and they are both trying to keep balance.

    I am a terrible dancer and not at all knowleable about this whole dancing thing, but:
    Also note that all other pairs hold one hand and the other is on hip/shoulder -- formal stance. But Trumps partner has both hands on his hips so it is safe to assume that he has likewise both hands on hers. That is not a formal dancing posture, that is something you usually see only by intimate partners and not on formal occasions.

    I don’t think her hands are on his waist, I think her arms are trapped under his arms and her hands are not touching him at all.

    Um… according to this article, she’s actually an avid Trump supporter still. Of course, there could be plenty of reasons for her not to mention any of the negative stuff.

    “Avid Trump supporter” does not equal “person who would welcome lewd advances from him”. Biiiiig difference between supporting someone politically, and actually wanting to initiate or go with some kind of sexual-seeming commentary much less relationship.
    I saw video of Melania’s first dance with Trump. Also not particularly positive body language. It was… creepy and extremely disconcerting, he kept whispering in her ear and her smile seemed forced.

    @rq: I know, and I agree. That’s what I meant by “there could be plenty of reasons for her not to mention any of the negative stuff,” that she was being “politically correct” in the interview, so to speak. Sorry, I really didn’t want to come out victim blamey.
