Less than a week ago, Trump, via his ‘team’ announced there would be no new foreign deals, in an attempt to quiet critics who keep noting he will not deal with his conflicts of interest. It was also stated that all pending deals would be off the table. Naturally, it didn’t take long for Trump to blithely break his word, which is utterly worthless. As usual, Trump found a way to skate around his statements, and he’s busy sliming over Scotland once again.

A multi-million dollar expansion of President-elect Donald Trump’s golf resort in Scotland is reportedly underway — less than a week after Trump’s attorney told reporters that the president-elect had, in an effort to distance himself from conflicts of interests with regards to his businesses, “ordered that all pending deals be terminated.”

According to the Guardian, which first reported the story on Sunday, the Trump Organization is moving forward with a plan to greatly expand the president-elect’s Trump International Golf Course Scotland, located in Aberdeenshire. The plans include construction of another 18-hole golf course, a new 450-room five-star hotel, a timeshare complex, and a private housing estate. The expansion would greatly increase the value of the property to the Trump Organization, according to the Guardian’s report.

A spokesperson for the Trump Organization told the Guardian that “implementing future phasing of existing properties does not constitute a new transaction” and therefore the Trump Organization plans to proceed with the deal, despite Trump’s assertion that he would no longer pursue foreign investments relating to his company.

I doubt the residents of Balmedie, Scotland are pleased by this move. If you don’t know why Trump is almost universally loathed and reviled by residents of Scotland, have a read. Then you can start wondering which parts of uStates are going to get smothered under the same Trump slime.

    Hmmm…

And I don’t think he can change us into Russia.

I think he can, and I think he’s gonna try. It’s not just Trump, it’s congress and the senate, and most of state govts’ too, all rethugs.

So unless and until we see publications shut down and journalists arrested or disappeared, let’s have a little more confidence in our values and our history and our country.

:Snort: Oh fuck, please. No. “Our values”? Those are based on theft and genocide, followed by never ending resource greed. The assholes who are now in charge are of the fanatical xian variety, and they think they know what values are good for everyone. And boy, can you ever tell a dude wrote this, because he’s certainly not paying attention to legislation which is already seriously threatening women, and LGBT+ peoples.

There’s a fair amount I agree with, but much I don’t. Yes, we need the truth, more than ever, but adopting a ‘tough guy, John Wayne’ stance is pure bullshit, and it won’t help.

I thought the scots said they wouldn’t let him into the country. What happened, Scotland?

“ordered that all pending deals be terminated.”

Must be he made a bad deal. Oops.
This is going to be incredibly convenient for him: he’ll be able to renege on any contract and cite executive privilege.

If you wait until you see publications shut down and journalists arrested or disappeared it is waaaay to late.

I thought the scots said they wouldn’t let him into the country. What happened, Scotland?

They realized that he really is going to be the President of the United States.

    Agree
We are already seeing politicians on this side of the pond trying to emulate him and our current government is sucking up.

From the article in gobi‘s #1, this:

Trump’s incoming Press Secretary Sean Spicer threatened to kick Acosta out of future press conferences if he didn’t show Trump more respect. This weekend brought news that the new administration is considering kicking the White House press corps out of the White House.

That attitude means there already is a problem, and as chigau says, “If you wait until you see publications shut down and journalists arrested or disappeared it is waaaay to late.” Because that shit starts with calls for respect and ‘both sides’, merely because facts are being reported as facts.
So. Trump may not turn America into Russia, but it’s starting to show similar symptoms from where I’m squinting, and it’s so rarely a true one-man job.
As for the deals and the no-future-deals-that-defy-all-odds-to-come-to-fruition, well, that’s just another symptom: it’s not important what he does, what’s important is what he says, because people always tell the truth, esp. powerful men, and there’s no reason to doubt his word. I mean, he’s the president, he’s got the power, he can do what he wants, but he said there will be no more deals. And that’s a fact -- that’s the fact that matters.
