    Oh, I haven’t seen holly since I left California. It makes a good hedge for keeping various critters and people out, but it requires quite a bit of maintenance, but all hedges do.

    Ah, it’s holly, which doesn’t grow here. Hawthorn is the stereotypical bush used in hedges in my neck of woods.

    The holly is maintained all by itself. I guess it got there by the common recycling method of “let’s throw the green stuff behind the garden at the edge of the wood*” because it doesn’t grow here wild.

    *Which I approve of. It also makes nice hideouts for hedgehogs and other small critters.
