Three-dimensional line sculpture is a nifty idea.
Yeah, it is! I wouldn’t even begin to know how to do something so cool. One of these days, I think I’m going to have to play with a box of toothpicks.
The Hitotsuyama works are a bit reminiscent of the Paju* sculpture works of Olavi Lanu. Of course Lanu didn’t have realism as his goal.

There’s a good article about Lanu and his works here. I’d love to see his work in person.
Here’s hoping for a retrospective world-touring exhibition for Olavi Lanu.
I grew up in Lahti and me and my mom went to see Lanu’s exhibition in the local art museum (about 1985) when I was about 10-11. The artist himself held a lecture there, telling about his life and (mostly) about his art. He seemed like a nice person and was a good speaker (perhaps connected to the fact that he was a teacher).
I really should go and see his works in Lahti. It’s just an hour by train from Helsinki.
Oh my goodness, the movement of Hitosuyama’s wolf is breathtaking! I can almost see its coat ruffling against the cold.
