Šuŋkawakaŋ Day.

[My] Tomorrow (Saturday, 8th Oct.) will most likely see Affinity closed for the day, I absolutely have to work. I have a beautiful, 200 count, white muslin, 90″ x 108″, arriving soon, which I’ll be painting, then freehand quilting, so it can be quickly done and donated to Standing Rock for winter. I spent time on horse sketching, then pulled out my test fabric, which is most definitely not 200 count, it’s cheap muslin. Even so, I haven’t played with all the various fabric paints I’ve come by, and now’s the time, so that I don’t fuck up that lovely fabric on the way. I didn’t even get the first bloody horse finished today, and I managed to completely forget what hours bent over a table do to my spine. (Insert scream here.) The first horse is roughly 26″ x 14″. I have to finish the first horse, then get eight more done. (I also need to do this, not just for testing various media, I need to work out colours, patterns, all that jazz.) I really hate to disappoint people, and if I can get a few things posted, I will, but don’t worry if I don’t show at all. I’ll definitely be back on Sunday.

Thank you both! I expect it’s a bit painful for you, Kestrel, my focus being more on horseness than accuracy, but I have to do this quickly.

Giliell, this is going to be messed up, being a test thing, but I’ll have no use for it when I’m done. If you want it, I’d be glad to send it to you!

If you don’t want them, these guys would make great T-shirt designs… maybe there is someone out there somewhere who would be glad for the original art? I know I’m commenting in the wrong place but the first three turned out *great*… you might be surprised… perhaps there is someone out there with enough smarts to promote this. You can always ask if you like but I am confident that you are OK with knowing who to contact! :-)

Oh, I’m happy to share with my friends, I’m not looking for money for this. If I ever get around to finishing, you have a horse coming your way too, Kestrel, in thanks for all that thread.

Giliell, I’ll send you the test cloth when I’m done, with all the horses. Like I said, it’s messy, not all that, but if you want it, it’s yours. It’s around 60″ x 50″.

Just let me have mail info, and as soon as it’s done, dry, and has been washed to complete the test, I’ll send it off.

@Caine #5: That was a gift freely given. :-) Not that I would turn a horse down! It’s just, whatever works. :-) Thanks for the thought, made my day.

Yes, and so will this be. :D I’ve only embroidered one horse, and I did that on a whim some time ago. Since then, it’s just been sitting in storage, because I had no idea what to do with it. I was telling Rick, after you sent all that thread, that now I know why I made it. I just have to get the finishing bits done.

    Thank you, Caine
I’m salivating already. But I’m totally happy to share with Kestrel. I will have to frame them separately anyway, so if the horses can be parted from each other that’S fine with me (as long as I get the blue one. That is not negotiable ;) )

  8. kestrel says

@Giliell: WHAT?!? ***arm-wrestles Giliell for the blue one*** ***loses spectacularly*** Well, OK. :-D It’s yours! (Wow, how’d you get so strong?)

But I think Caine is talking about a completely different horse, so they are all yours anyway. Congratulations!

Your art is fantastic, Caine, and not just Giliell and I like it. You totally SHOULD get money for your work, don’t sell yourself short! If I were a rich person, I would spend all my time finding people like you, and support you.

Yes, I am. Giliell knows which one, she’s seen it (the embroidered horse, Paint).

Oh, I’m not! But this quilt is wopila, giveaway, and that’s special. I see no reason the test fabric should be different in this case.

    Giliell:

Some of them can be, but I don’t know that it will be that easy. Even though it’s messy (smears, rat prints, mistakes), if it’s kept intact, it could make a lap quilt or throw quilt.

I’ll think of something when I get my hooves paws claws hands on it.
But I can only agree with kestrel that your art is wonderful and special.

D’awww, Giliell gets all the horses. :( This is what happens when you do Things for a weekend.
Anyway, these horses are all beautiful -- in form, in colour and composition. I like how each has its own character and attitude, very vibrant and alive!
