Goodbye, Doc, and Thank you.

Dr. Richard Arazi.

Dr. Richard Arazi.

I just found out that my neurologist of close to 20 years has died. Dr. Arazi had planned on retiring in December, so I saw him for the last time in May. He was a man of gentle humour, and quiet pride in his family. We always used to get wonderfully distracted, discussing books or other interesting things. He was an altogether lovely man, and a very caring physician. My thanks, for all your care over the years.

I am sorry for your loss, Caine. Good people leave big holes in the universe.

Thank you, Morgan, and yes, they do. He was looking forward to spending time with his grandbabies in LA after he retired. It’s so damn wrong he didn’t get that time.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Doctors aren’t supposed to get sick, die, or retire. But they are still human, so they do.
Mine retired, although his initial claim of end of January took until the end of July. I’ll see if his replacement and I get along later this month. Somehow I have the nagging suspicion I met her before during the Redhead’s last emergency room visit.

Well, Dr. Arazi was visibly ill, but we were hoping he’d have a long, happy retirement. It’s a sadness, and I’m sure, a terrible shock to his family.

I’m sorry for your loss. The life goes on for the living but it’s never the same again.

    Condolences, Caine

My optometrist of 30+ years just passed away. I had been going to him for his entire career -- I started with the optometrist whose practice he took over. Over the last year or so he had reduced his office time to 1 day a week, and was contemplating full retirement. I would see him about every 6 months for a contact lens check and my yearly exam (even when I was 2 hours away, during college). I didn’t know that my recent appt with him would be my last time seeing him.

    Sigh.

I’m so sorry. It’s really tough, losing someone who has been part of your life for so long, and who took such good care of you, too.
