Random Monday

Since I’ve been posting work on the tree quilt, I decided to show a small bit of a different part of the process. When I first started, I was trying to figure out how I wanted to lay the tree out, so I decided to spend a day outside with my camera and sketch book, staring at trees. The pursuit of shape resulted in a great many photos and even more sketches, many of which were incorporated into the tree quilt. Click for full size.

These are so neat and expressive. Will you be sharing the sketches, too?
I still love weathered wood a lot -- this is just a bit different. It’s trees who carry their life stories on their skin, and it is fascinating.

The last one is so rich with detail. The wormholes and all. Also it gives associations with an eye of an anatomy drawing of a pregnant woman.

The second to last is like an ent that’s winking.

All in all, wonderfully craggy trees.

    I had that association too!

I really like that first shot. I can feel the rough bark under my fingers as I look at it. My mind specifically imagines just where I put my hands on the tree.
