Poor little guy. He’s just trying to hide, but is too big for the space.
I keep seeing Chekov in “The Wrath of Khan”.
Hide? He’s after the ants!!! And probably warm and cosy in there.
I’m sure he wouldn’t pass up a midnight (for him) snack, but he’d rather hide during the day and hunt at night. Besides, if he’s really hungry, he could always eat some of the flower since they are omnivores. They are really good at getting into little cracks to hide during the day. You can make them really happy by spraying those places with a little water to keep them damp.
I’ve been seeing a lot of the males around over the past couple of weeks, but not any females. I should probably read up on them when I get a chance to see if there’s a reason for that.
I saw a female just before finding this guy, so he was probably out for an after-date snooze or snack. I usually find one or two in/on the mailbox, and around the woodpile; there’s plenty of dark, damp spaces for them away from the house. We had a bit of an infestation in the apartment balcony way back when -- I know they’re harmless to humans, but there’s something about an earwig or two dropping down on you from the ceiling…
He has a handsome pair of cerci.
I’ve seen fellows like this every now and then, most when coming home when it’s dark, they escape rather quickly under the cabinet where kitchen sink is located.
