MARY ESTHER — A 28-year-old woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation after driving into a Mary Esther house Thursday morning.

The woman told Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies she was praying at the time and had her eyes closed, according to the OCSO.

The Fort Walton Beach woman was traveling eastbound on Marcia Drive when she failed to stop at a stop sign, went through an intersection and into the yard of a home on Miramar Drive.

She tried to back out but got stuck in the sand, the OCSO said.

She was cited for reckless driving with property damage.

No one in the house was injured.

Given all the petty broken window laws we get stuck with, how did driving while praying get a miss?

Or the big Y was texting to Thor and Zeus about the recent thunderstorms.

I’m glad nobody was seriously injured or died.

Apparently all that ‘carried you across the sand’ bit applies only to pedestrians.
(Seriously? Closed your eyes while at the wheel…? You sure got one heck of an answer!

No, no, no. The only way to make this story more ridiculous is she makes a statement saying God protected her from being injured.
’cause she was praying at the time. Get it?

Please tell me she did that. I could do with a laugh.

back in the late 70s, a friend who I used to party with, ‘got religion’. One of his many girlfriends turned him on to Transcendental Meditation (TM). He gave up partying and immersed himself in TM. He expressed some doubts when they asked for more and more money but he stuck with the program. The thing that finally threw him was that he started doing the TM chant thing when he was driving. Funny thing is that if you chant a nonsense phrase over and over you can really whip yourself into quite the altered mental state. He finally figured out in a meaningful way that despite TM being internal it is still essentially a mind altering drug. A drug every bit as potentially dangerous any other if it was not kept under control.

The kicker was when he started doing the TM thing in the car and he came to himself two hours later in the ditch. According to the highway patrolman and based on when the report was called in, he had been doing his TM thing for about 45 minutes in the ditch, with the engine running and was still doing it when the officer tapped on the glass with his flashlight.

The trooper observed that if he had gone of the road a few miles before or after he would have driven off an embankment, and/or driven at speed into a tree-line or power pole. As it was he went off the road into the rare stretch of shallow, brush-filled ditch.
