Ray Comfort & The Reason Rally

1462122962New Zealand-born evangelist and creationist Ray Comfort, co-host of the “The Way of the Master” TV show, has said he will give the thousands of atheists attending the Reason Rally 2016 in Washington D.C. on June 4 $25,000 worth of Subway gift cards, alongside a copy of his book.

“Most atheists don’t know that there’s never been an atheist president, that no member of Congress is an atheist, that in some states it’s illegal for atheists to run for office, and that recent surveys show atheists in America are about as popular as rapists. It’s a fascinating read,” Comfort said of the book, titled Why Pigs Will Fly Before America Has an Atheist President.

As for the gift cards that his Living Waters ministry will also be giving out, Comfort added: “The $25,000 worth of gift cards are a little something for them to chew on (we are hoping to feed 5,000 — it’s been done before).

“This is a small token of our love for atheists, and when we run out of books and gift cards we will give them millions of dollars,” he quipped, referring to the joke million-dollar bill, based on the book.

Most atheists don’t know about the lack of atheist politicians? Most atheists are unaware of how they rate in popularity? I have a bit of news, Ray. Most atheists aren’t quite as uninformed as you are.

Twenty five thousand dollars. That’s a substantial sum, and I imagine it could go one hell of a long way to helping out families in need, there are an awful lot of children going hungry in uStates. But no, it’s going towards shoring up Comfort’s already sizeable ego, indulging his need for constant self-advertising. A cheap gift card won’t be swaying the minds and hearts of those at Reason Rally, and I’m sure Comfort is well aware of that. So, when push comes to shove, what’s a Christian to do? Why, feed their ego, of course! Much more important that feeding those who are actually hungry. Right impressive, that.

So, all you moderate, progressive Christians out there – are you going to tell Comfort he’s wrong, that his values are seriously fucked up? That wasting money in self-aggrandizement is not a “Christian” thing to do?

“…in some states it’s illegal for atheists to run for office…”

That’s a lie. Some states have laws on their books barring atheists from holding office, but the US constitution (first and fourteenth amendments) supported by SCOTUS precedent (Torcaso v. Watkins), makes those laws unenforceable. They should be cleared from the statutes and state constitutions, but legislatures keep them around to pander to the rubes since they don’t want to be seen voting “against” such laws.

Reason Rally organizers could troll Comfort right back by installing a huge recycling bin within view of his display, and a “donate Subway gift cards to the homeless” table immediately past that.

An exchange of gifts is often appreciated. In return, I suggest several roasted babies and a personalized elemental.

On the claimed 25K USD — Keep in mind what people like that say, and what they actually do, frequently occupy different realities.

Great idea! I haven’t seen new of this outside christian sites, so they may not know about it yet.

He’s done this sort of shit before, he certainly has the money to do so.

If I didn’t already know this stuff, what is Ray’s point in telling me? Is he just too polite to scream a big “Fuck you!”? It’s pretty damn depressing, thanks.

The backhand there (you just know that Ray is going to goof up somehow), is that it is pretty good evidence that atheists are persecuted, not the damnable Christians. Look ye here: Two groups -- one has never had a member as president, and is forbidden from holding public office, and gets big fuck-yous at their rallies -- the other group has had every president, has their slogan on the money, has enough money to use it to insult folks, and gets to whine about being persecuted (even though their book says they are supposed to be persecuted and have to bear it with good grace). Which group is Ray in?

Seriously, this pisses me off so bad that I am tempted to go to the reason rally wearing my steel-toed boots. Words are not adequate.

Evidently Ray Comfort is not smart enough to actually read the US Constitution.
    Article VI paragraph 3

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

    Read it and weep Ray.

REASON RALLY ATTENDEES: If you see ray & he tries to hand you one of his f^cking coupons, tell him: “I’m doing OK, Ray. Why don’t you take them to the southeast or northeast sides of town where people could use them. Odin bless you.”

Time to make things out of useless books. If it is as wet as it was last time, they can be used as stepping stones. I’m sure that there will be recycle bins set up.

the cards should be gathered up and donated to the homeless and local food charities.
