Old Navy tweeted a family showing off their cheap clothes on Friday that happens to be an interracial family. The photo sent the internet into an uproar and racists clutched their pearls to such an extent that it even began trending on Twitter Sunday afternoon.

@OldNavy Absolutely disgusting. What’s next? Gender neutral bathrooms?

Pedophilia acceptance propaganda?! Never shopping here again.

RTwits2

My family and I will never step into an @OldNavy store again.

This miscegenation junk is rammed down our throats from every direction.

I’m not ashamed. Really I consider slavery a testiment to our kindness.

Good grief. What is the sodding problem here?
Interracial “family”† adverts are not unknown here(France) — I had one shoved through my letterbox today — albeit not too common. But frequent enough I suspect I see one-ish every week (albeit that may reflect my reading material / sites…). Ditto actual “interracial”‡ families.

† Use of “quotes” only because the individuals portrayed are (probably) paid, unrelated, models.
‡ Use of “quotes” because I’m not very keen on that term, and outside of, say, a medical setting, see no reason it matters.

They’re such a lovely family, too. Shame people can’t see past their own prejudices to celebrate the idea of a happy family, full of love. Miscegenation, indeed… they should look a little at themselves, because it’s not the happy, loving couples and families (of all makes and models) that are bringing the human race lower.

Good question. Going by some of the tweets, it’s not celebrating white babies, and to get white babies, you have to have white people, specifically, a white man and a white woman.

That’s the only proper famblee, one daddy, one mommy, lotsa white babies. Or something. Why in the hell what other people do bothers them, I don’t know.

I have some white babies, but if they ever express views like these, we’re going to have some serious words. I’m hoping to raise them better.

Ah, memories of a very recent Cheerios commercial that also caused racists to lose their shit for the exact same reason.

But remember, racism was over when Obama was elected and anyone pointing out problems are the real racists.

In all honesty, it wouldn’t take much to raise them better -- these assholes set a very low bar. They teach their kids to hate and to fear.

Oh yes, the infamous Cheerios. And the infamous Oreos. And the infamous whatthefuckever. It’s interesting though, that the racists get much more bent out of shape when it’s a white man / black woman combination. I think they see that as a white man being a race traitor, whereas when it’s a black man / white woman, it’s those evil black men stealing the white women again.

Good on this store (and other corporations with similar ads) on not being cowered by the racists.
