Jesus “weeps” over DOMA

Zombie candidate and eternal right-wing pundit Mike Huckabee knows a thing or two about Jesus. The former Arkansas governor doesn’t think his Lord and Savoir is perturbed by tax cuts for zillionaires, sweetheart contracts for war profiteers, or budget cuts for those struggling with the real world consequences of Huckabee’s fave policies. But when it comes to marriage equality, Huckabee knows Jesus is so emotionally invested in denying same sex couples equal rights he cannot divinely compose himself today.

My thoughts on the SCOTUS ruling that determined that same sex marriage is okay: “Jesus wept.”@GovMikeHuckabe

There really is a difference between the GOP and the Democratic Party. Contrast Huckabee’s view with President Obama’s take:

Daily Kos — I applaud the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act. This was discrimination enshrined in law. It treated loving, committed gay and lesbian couples as a separate and lesser class of people. The Supreme Court has righted that wrong, and our country is better off for it. We are a people who declared that we are all created equal – and the love we commit to one another must be equal as well.

This ruling is a victory for couples who have long fought for equal treatment under the law; for children whose parents’ marriages will now be recognized, rightly, as legitimate; for families that, at long last, will get the respect and protection they deserve; and for friends and supporters who have wanted nothing more than to see their loved ones treated fairly and have worked hard to persuade their nation to change for the better.

So we welcome today’s decision, and I’ve directed the Attorney General to work with other members of my Cabinet to review all relevant federal statutes to ensure this decision, including its implications for Federal benefits and obligations, is implemented swiftly and smoothly. […] The laws of our land are catching up to the fundamental truth that millions of Americans hold in our hearts: when all Americans are treated as equal, no matter who they are or whom they love, we are all more free.

Equality. Gay or straight, black or white or brown, male or female, the NSA is storing all of your e-mail and phone calls.

I’ll wager many people will spend some tears today, at finally getting a crumb thrown their way by the high court.
Maybe those are the same tears Jesus would have shed – I’m not inclined to think such a man would be fighting gays today. (Disclaimer: no religion.)

Dave Moscato’s reply to Hucksterbee is priceless:

“Funny, I often make big decisions by asking myself, “What would make Jesus cry?””

Huckabee might well be right. Jesus was pretty anti-marriage in general, if you actually read the New Testament. Anything that allows more people to share human love with each other (as opposed to constantly serving His dad) is probably something Jesus would oppose…

Yeah, I wanted a variant on that, “WWCFMFD”, or “What Would Calvin Forbid Me From Doing?

Also, yay USan gay folk! Congrats from America Lite. We long ago found that gay marriage doesn’t just taste great, it’s also less filling!

I don’t even remember the context of “Jesus wept”, and I’m damn sure not going to waste brain cells looking it up.
