Wisconsin. You blew it.

Spread the love

A while back, about the time protesters were occupying the Wisconsin State House, I mentioned that while I fully supported the recall of Walker, I also thought the voters of Wisconsin had to take a certain amount of responsibility. They did elect the guy, after all. It was their fault, collectively, that he was in office.

People got mad at me and told me I should say things like that. The people of Wisconsin were victims, they didn’t mean to put an evil Democracy-hating crook in the state house. They needed our support, not our admonition.

But guess what. I was right. The majority of voters in Wisconsin are union busting dickheads, and the rest of the voters, the almost majority, are either not sufficiently persuasive, not showing up at the polls, or are not reproducing quickly enough. Officially, Wisconsin is a Stupid State. I’d love to just think that whatever happens to you, Wisconsin, you deserve because you brought it on yourself (I can say that more Passive Aggressively if you like). But unfortunately, what you did was worse than just screwing yourselves. You’ve screwed the entire country. You let yourselves be the first domino to fall in what was left of a delicate system set up to maintain certain rights and certain responsibilities. We got here with a lot of violence, hard work, death and destruction, nearly revolution. Remember? No, of course you don’t. And you have knocked over the first domino. You idiots.

If you are a Wisconsin resident, and you understand that Scott Walker had to be recalled, and you did not show up at the polls, then you are my enemy. You are everybody’s enemy. You are worse than the yahoos who wanted him to stay and showed up and voted, because at least they participated in the process.

If you make less than a quarter of a million dollars a year, and you voted to keep Walker in, you are an idiot. If you don’t have a job and you want one, of if you have a job in anything where Unions matter even if you are not in a union, and you voted for Walker, you are an idiot. I could go on. I think you get the point.

And the Packers suck even when they win.

Good night. Don’t bother calling me and emailing tomorrow for money and pizza. Dig yourself out this time. I’m busy over here in Minnesota trying to keep our yahoos down. Maybe we’ll send them there, you like them.

Jeesh.

  1. Amazing what a few million extra dollars from the outside can do to sway an election.

In addition to blaming those who abstained from voting, the Democratic National Committee deserves a healthy share of the blame themselves. They did far too little to counter the outside ads – which were mostly lies, and could have been countered, if they’d only viewed the election as something more than a minor local issue.

  2. If you make less than a quarter of a million dollars a year, and you voted to keep Walker in, you are an idiot

No: they’re not idiots: they made the conscious calculus that screwing up people from their own social class had more chance to bring them personal benefits that challenging the upper-class: they’re no stupid: they’re cynical and submissive.

  3. Walker wins! Walker wins! Walker wins!
Now to gather our troops for the November election to vote YES here in MN!

  4. Walker wins!
Sorry I am so happy I am starting to cry. Can we start a recall now on Obama. I’m the first to sign.

  5. dano, a US President cannot be recalled. Maybe you should sign up for civics lessons instead. Derp.

  6. Isn’t it a bit early?

MSNBC called it at 9:50, at 22% of the vote reported. If I recall, the tally was somewhat lopsided from the first, indicating that the heavily Democratic areas hadn’t yet been reported. Milwaukee, for instance, which was reported to be heavily in favor of Barrett. As a matter of fact, none of the big cities in Wisconsin had yet reported in.

Even folks interviewed at the Walker headquarters reported being surprised by the early call.

I’d say, wait a bit, even if Walker does win, it is likely to be much closer than it looks at first glance.

  7. Most networks who call elections before a majority of the vote is in do it because they have exit polling data that give them a sense for how the non-reporting districts will vote. I’m sure that’s why NBC called it with only 21% reporting (Walker was leading 61% vs. 38%).

  8. When future historians look back to trace the roots of the second civil war they will look upon tonight as a major factor.

Oh please, don’t be so melodramatic.

  9. No after the second civil war happens, historians will look to the socialist propaganda that Obama and all his supporters push. All this election shows is that the occupy movement, and all the protests like it really don’t make any difference. You don’t represent the majority and no one cares what you are saying. BTW before you call me a union hater I am a member of a union. I pay my dues every month. All Scott walker is trying to do is balance Wisconsin budget, much like Obama is trying to balance the us budget by gutting the military. If you ask me what Obama is doing is a hundred times worse than what walker did. We are kicking out troops with 8-17 years who will receive nothing for their dedicated service, sad. Maybe if this is a sign of anything, it’s that we are sick of the current administration. I don’t know about you but I am ready for the change Obama said he would deliver, but he lied the only change I see is us sliding further into debt, and closer to socialism.

  10. @IRQV

Ok: since you’re lying about Walker Agenda, why would we believe that you’re not lying when you’re claiming to be in an Union?

  11. Well, of course Walker got re-elected. That’s what happens when elections become auctions, after all.

  12. @IRQVet1999,
Nothing is more “socialist” than war. “Gutting the military”? I wish. The wars (terror, drugs, immigrants, etc) are wars on poor people and for the benefit of rich people who don’t care about us at all. And “We” are not kicking out anyone in the military. The military always does this at the end of wars or campaigns to get rid of the damaged veterans and throw them back on society. This after promising the kids a great future.
I’m reminded of this every time I get x-rayed at the airport. It costs me money on my plane ticket to be pointlessly harassed and intimidated in order line the pockets of the investors in the “Global War on Peasants”.
    Welcome to Feudalism 2.0.

  13. the almost majority…are not reproducing quickly enough

The quiverfull movement is way ahead of you. While many “on the left” are being greenie good citizens fearful of overpopulating the planet and thus having few if any children, others like the Duggar family are pumping out voters by the quiverfull.

I don’t think a civil war would end in your favor.

Numbers matter. Why do you think the Catholic church is against birth control? They want more Catholics!

One of Sun Tzu’s proverbs state that numerical superiority is the key to victory.

  14. No after the second civil war happens, historians will look to the socialist racist/homphobic/misogynist/xenophobic propaganda that Obama repiglicans and all their supporters push

    FTFY, you worthless liar.

  15. One of Sun Tzu’s proverbs state that numerical superiority is the key to victory.

    Peter Navarro agrees

We are screwed, all right, but its not because useless sacks of shit like IRQVet1999 and his barely conscious ilk potentially outnumber good and decent Americans.

  16. Dano, as ever, you fail at being a decent person.

I’m saddened and confused by the failure of the recall. Walker’s a seriously non-chrismatic person with what appears to be felony culpability and drew the vast majority of his STATE level election $$ from outside of the STATE. Further, all that $$ was able to buy up many (or all in some counties) of the advertising slots. Evenmoreso, the media ran the ads with factual errors and there was limited time / voices pointing up the lies and errors…sigh

@ IRQVet1999, respectfully please get out more. Make your first stop a library and go look up what a socialist is and what they actually want. If you’re feeling all modern, google Bernie Sanders and understand that he’s actually really really moderate for a socialist and he’s to the left of the entire FEDGOV.

Then for your next stop try to visit a nice big corporation. Walker’s budget problems would never have existed but for tax breaks and other incentives (you known, $$!) that he gave to them when he got in office.

  17. tacitus – stop being so naive.

fwiw – I wrote that before all the results were in and it looks now like the senate has a democratic majority so, assuming they act as one, they can put the halt to Walker’s future plans. Had they not won a majority you would be looking at the start of your worst possible political nightmare. The complete rollback of every step forward progressives have made since the days of the robber barons, and you still may. Wisconsin was the testing ground for the ability of outside untraceable $$ to win an election. You can bet your last $ that in all the upcoming elections that money will go into buying p every available advertising slot in every swing state and to fill the media with lies. When all is said and done there will be a red wave across Americia and the game will be so rigged everywhere there is a complete GOP majority that the Democratic party will never get back in again in those areas.

  18. The right wing are using the current economy to smash labour rights all over the west, it’s a concerted effort. In the uk the government is looking at bringing in legislation that permits the sacking of employees without the employer having to give a reason!!! Holy shit, what’s even more baffling is it isn’t causing a riot, in one stroke, any and all rights in the workplace go up in smoke, of you don’t do what the boss man says your out, and you have no recourse.

  19. I agree, Wisconsin blew it. I feel bad for the ones who really tried, who got out there in the cold and collected signatures, who marched, stood in the heat, etc. But I really feel sorry for America. Our country was first hi-jacked by the Supreme Court when they ruled for the Citizen’s United garbage. Then we were hi-jacked by the Koch Brothers and their gazillion dollars and mindset to rule the country. Then we were hi-jacked by the lowest of the low pols like Scott Walker who is in the game for Scott Walker. It’s a sad day for Wisconsin, but an even sadder day for the US.

  20. @SDSanders

Our country was first hi-jacked by the Supreme Court when they ruled for the Citizen’s United garbage. Then we were hi-jacked by the Koch Brothers and their gazillion dollars and mindset to rule the country.

Exactly. Citizen’s United has made it possible for one or two people to affect the election of a state of 5 million+ (and soon, a country of 300 million +). It is probably the most undemocratic practice in the country and there is no way it will be reversed anytime in the next few decades. We’re all screwed.

  21. A powerful message was sent out today. “Democracy – Yeah, You Can Buy That Here Too. – America, Inc.”

  22. Okay, so the Senate is in Democratic control. For how long? Here is the schedule for the current elected body, and there is another election this November and we don’t know how that will turn out for the 2013/2014 Senate. If the new Senate is seated for 6 days, what can the Democratic Senate accomplish? What could the Democratic governor have done with no legislature?

I am not sure why they even held this election at this time instead of working to replace Walker this November. It would have been more of a symbolic victory than anything else. Am I wrong?

  23. And the Assembly has a lopsided Republican majority, besides. Wisconsin blew it now, perhaps the DNC will do a bit more work there in helping the Wisc Democrats get some ground back.

  24. SDSanders @ # 27: Our country was first hi-jacked by the Supreme Court when they ruled for the Citizen’s United garbage.

Ahem. The Supreme Court’s first hijacking of this country occurred in December 2000 when they ruled for the Bush/Cheney garbage.

  25. IRQVet1999, Scott Walker is a purer corporate socialist than obama is.
    ———
i don’t see the recall outcome as completely awful. If the Koch cabal must spend at 7:1 for all elections, soon they’ll run out of other people’s money. (Unfortunately they know they don’t need to, and so won’t spend at that ratio)

  26. I don’t think a civil war would end in your favor.
They “have the guns”. We have the brains, electronics (eg, surveillance, controls) savvy, bots, and more of the vets than the Liberal Media likes everyone to believe.
Think: artillery (eg, assad, quakdaffi) against ak-47s, but well past ww2 technology.
    They want more Catholics!
Rapture fodder (eg, iraq-iran war, 1980s)
But, we don’t need civil war.

  27. Wisconsin blew it now, perhaps the DNC will do a bit more work there in helping the Wisc Democrats get some ground back.
It seems that Koch/Walker’s most parasitic wetdreams have been halted. But I expect WI state legislators will repeal much of the more fascist legislation within 20 years.

  28. why they even held this election at this time instead of working to replace Walker this November.
Some from vague memory: Walker elected to gov Nov 2010. WI allows recall sig collection to begin min 1 year later. But the next regular gov election will be Nov 2014. So successful recall would have cut about two years off the Koch/Walker dictatorship.

  29. Wisconsin was the testing ground for the ability of outside untraceable $$ to win an election
It was an even greater ‘david v goliath’ setup. I read in only one commentary (but seen many refernceselsewhere) that WI election law allows unlimited donation to recall edfendant, but challenger is limited to the usual 10k/donor.
Really, this election was poorly armed town’s people vs the megalithic war machine. So, considering the election was hugely rigged in Koch/Walker’s favor, it didn’t do very well.

red wave across Americia and the game will be so rigged everywhere there is a complete GOP majority that the Democratic party will never get back in again in those areas.
No, the teafascists will destroy themselves. (‘absolute corruption’.. isn’t attainable, but almost absolute corruption… etc) Destructiveness is innate to their aggregate ‘personality’. Simultanously, more of their common victims will be come unable to remain snoring sheep.
