Stupid celebrities!

Cupping therapy is an ancient alternative medicine in which a local suction is created on the skin. Many people including celebrities fall for ancient medicine. They believe cupping can cure almost all kinds of diseases. But the truth is, ancient medicine men did not have much scientific knowledge about diseases and cures. People who have a little bit of common sense should know that cupping therapy is not a cure for any disease. Simply it does not work. And, cupping creates nothing but pain and bruises.

Look at the cupping marks on their back.

I like what Richard Dawkins says,”There is no alternative medicine. There is only medicine that works and medicine that doesn’t work.”
Not only Western celebrities, many Eastern celebrities also run after medicine that doesn’t work.

Everybody should know about alternative therapies.

Alternative therapies lack the requisite scientific validation, and their effectiveness is either unproved or disproved. Many of the claims regarding the efficacy of alternative medicines are controversial, since research on them is frequently of low quality and methodologically flawed. Selective publication of results (misleading results from only publishing positive results, and not all results), marked differences in product quality and standardization, and some companies making unsubstantiated claims, call into question the claims of efficacy of isolated examples where herbs may have some evidence of containing chemicals that may affect health. The Scientific Review of Alternative Medicine points to confusions in the general population – a person may attribute symptomatic relief to an otherwise-ineffective therapy just because they are taking something (the placebo effect); the natural recovery from or the cyclical nature of an illness (the regression fallacy) gets mis-attributed to an alternative medicine being taken; a person not diagnosed with science based medicine may never originally have had a true illness diagnosed as an alternative disease category.

I guess many people fall for the conspiracy theories and then fall for the ‘alternative medicines’. I have noticed people saying – autism occurs because of some vaccines.

Celebrities, specially Western ones, don’t understand Asia. Doctors from countries like China and India, or any other country for that matter, can be just as good as doctors from the USA, but doctors from India and China can also cheat and lie just as much as quack doctors from the USA. All countries have their good doctors and also their quacks and woo masters.

Here in Brazil we have faith healers and John of God (João de Deus), who even appeared in Oprah. But he’s a quack doctor, not a good doctor.

Western celebrities don’t understand that a doctor from Brazil or Thailand can lie just as much as quacks from the US of A.

Tell the celebrities I will charge them substantially less for scaring away the evil spirits that cause disease. 🙂

Oh, my grandmother would have this done whenever she had a cold! Which is completely unsurprising given that she was a self-proclaimed witch too…

Of course, these are just photos, not proof they’re using it as a therapeutic treatment for a physical malady. Do we really want to make fun of people who use varied methods of meditation to reduce stress in their life or increase their enjoyment?

For all we know they’re using it for some sexual kink.

All kinds of diseases? One would think that people would wise up to the cure-all sales pitch. Does the term “snake oil” mean anything to them? :/

  7. Andrew Glasgow says

Sometimes people do cupping as a recreational activity, under the general category of kink and sadomasochism and things that hurt and give an endorphin high as a result. So some of these celebrities may not be stupid, but rather exploring unusual sensations.

Funny how their erogenous zones and abscesses are perfectly spaced apart in a way that resembles the product of ritual. It may not be the case with all celebrities, but the ones pictured above? Yeah, they’re into the healing claims.

Cupping, unlike your latest clinical sudies which tell us here in the West how high to jump, has withstood the test of time. The Chinese are not stupid and go with what works rgardless of what others think… Probably you should try it before you knock it as that just show ignorance.

    Dawkins is right, of course.
Spinal surgery is one of the “therapies that don’t work”.
Surgery is prescribed for a huge range of illnesses for which it is completely ineffective.

Vitamins and massage are some of the “therapies that do work” for many illnesses. (Because there are a lot of illnesses caused by vitamin deficiency, including deficiencies not bad enough to cause rickets etc.)
Hypnotism is highly effective for a frightening range of illnesses.
Advanced meditation is highly successful for a large range of illnesses in double-blind studies.

But just try to get an average conventional US doctor to admit this sort of stuff.
Yes, there is no such thing as “alternative” medicine, only proven and unproven medicine. Unfortunately the MD credential is just as much of an unreliable quack credential as the rest of them, and MDs routinely practice disproven medicine just like the other folks.

I end up doing my own research through actual studies regarding what works medically. I shouldn’t have to.

Actually, cupping therapy works fantastically well. And I’m going to have to correct you, cupping does not hurt! Perhaps you may not have gotten it done before writing this post and are just making some uninformed projections. I’m surprised you call yourself a free thinker, but consider modern medicine a success. There are so many things broken about the modern system of prescriptions and surgeries with very little attention given to diet and awareness of the physical body.

And if you are fighting against the oppression of women, why would you ever publish a blog calling other women stupid?
