Stephen Colbert on the Republican debate

He had a hilarious send up of the last debate.

He also looked at Jeb!’s response to whether he would have killed Hitler as a baby if he could go back in time.

Carson was asked a variation on this question, whether he would be in favor of aborting baby Hitler.

These kinds of hypotheticals are truly silly and should not be asked.

While the questions about killing or aborting Baby Hitler are indeed ridiculous, the contrast between them could be interesting. If the “pro-life” death cult is eager to KILL a baby in a ridiculous hypothetical, but refuses to abort under similarly absurd circumstances, it shows what screwed-up priorities the fetus-fetishists have.

    @ ^ phantomreader42 : Yup. Sure does.

Colbert sums it up pretty well too.

None of these klowns will be POTUS. Sanity willing.

You’d think that after Rick Perry’s failure last election, they’d have learned to avoid the “here’s the exact number of agencies I’d eliminate” angle.

Just don’t say the number up front and you’re safe. It’s not that hard, people. Don’t you have professionals helping you out with this stuff?

I wonder if Colbert has read Alice Miller’s For Your Own Good: The Roots of Violence in Child-Rearing. Hitler is one of her case-studies. He was indeed the victim of physical and emotional abuse by his father. As was Stalin (by Stalin’s father, that is, not Hitler’s!). Another precaution Colbert should take is to make sure Hitler is not raised as a Catholic (although I note that he is one himself). As a child, Hitler’s power fantasies took the form of imagining himself as an abbot, and conducting mock religious ceremonies with his siblings as congregation; much of his later showmanship was an adaptation of Catholic ceremonies; and his antisemitism drew heavily on South German Catholic nationalism (see Derek Hastings’ Catholicism and the Roots of Nazism).

    LykeX,

I thought the same thing. There is nothing to be gained by specifying the exact number prior to listing them. The problem may be that Cruz thinks he is very smart and not like the doofus Rick Perry and thus would never make the same mistake.
