The pest who will not go away Kim Davis is back in the news because she is being sued again by couples for altering the marriage licenses issued by her county. They have asked the federal judge to hold her once again in contempt for not following his order to refrain from interfering with the license issuing process.
On Friday, the lawyer for Deputy Clerk Brian Mason, who has been issuing licenses since Davis was jailed, told the court Davis confiscated the licenses upon her return and gave him a document that removed references to Rowan County and Davis’ office and required him to list his title as a notary public.
The changes run afoul of Bunning’s order, the filing by the lawyers for the plaintiffs said. At the minimum, she has created considerable uncertainty for marriage applicants about their licenses and subsequent marriages, the filing said.
Bunning should direct that licenses be issued under the former format and the office reissue the licenses issued in the past week that could be open to legal challenges, it said.
Davis has also started doing a round of media interviews with her poor, persecuted Christian shtick, wondering why people won’t let her follow Jesus rather than the law.
1. I can see how this will end up. Kim Davis will keep escalating until she is removed from office.
This can be de facto as she sits in jail for contempt of court. Or de jure.
2. The strategy, “Give them enough rope and they will hang themselves” will work here. Just let her escalate until she commits a real crime or alienates all but the dead ender xians. Her support is only 23%, about the same as people who think the sun orbits the earth. I’m sure there is a lot of overlap. She is at the point where she could be a serial killer and the remaining dead end xians wouldn’t care (especially if they were dead gays).
3. Time isn’t on her side. At some point the state of Kentucky or Rowan county, which so far are MIA and appear to be in a coma, will have to do something. IIRC, nonfeasance or malfeasance of office is a criminal offense in Kentucky. Nonfeasance means not doing your job.
I don’t know if this is feasible.
Just have a court issue a restraining order against Kim Davis. In favor of the Rowan county courthouse. On the basis that she has violating several state and federal laws, at the very least ignoring a federal judge’s orders.
Let her sit at home and collect her $80,000. If she shows up, have the sheriff cart her home again. Repeat as needed.
What if Kim Davis is fined some large amount for a corresponding large number of days while defying Judge Bunning? And then Liberty Counsel pays or finds somebody or group to pay those fines?
Is paying a fine for Kim Davis considered her income for federal tax purposes?
Does the IRS persecute Christians?
It looks like I will go through many bags of popcorn before this show is over.
Let her continue to be a lightning rod for haters. It’s good to get them to step forward and be recognized. She can go down in history as the loser that she is. Keep shovelling, Davis.
