Equal time for creationists

Religious people are upset that their views on creation are not being given sufficient deference in the TV series Cosmos and that the shows promote (oh, the horror!) evolution. The website Funny or Die has got hold of an alternative show that gives their side of the story. As you can see, the Biblical version of creation is pretty succinct.

NPR’s On the Media blog just did a segment (http://www.onthemedia.org/story/correcting-false-balance/) on false balance and how it’s benefiting climate change denialists because people end up thinking that there’s more scientific disagreement than there actually is.

Some other examples that come to mind are the creationist example here, anti-vaccine activists having their fraudulent autism studies presented as real science (the study was actually fraudulent), and gun control advocates convincing the public that they’re less safe than ever (violent crime rates have actually been dropping for decades).

surely in the interests of balance every variety of creationism, including Odinism, the Olympian pantheon, the Aztec belief-system, Pastafarianism… ought to be given equal time. Whether there would be time for anything else is another matter.

My cable package has at least 6 channels dedicated specifically to christianity. Yet they’re complaining about a one-hour program that’s on one day a week.
