Michelle Obama, pastry Nazi?

For some reason, people seem to be seeking ways to attack Michelle Obama although as far as I can see, she seems to have been an exemplary First Lady. The fact that nothing has stuck suggests that she has been very savvy about her words and behavior. One continuous strain has been to mock her focus on childhood obesity and her drive to get people to eat more healthily and exercise and has been used to paint her as some kind of health food fanatic.

You may have heard of the latest effort. The pastry chef at the White House supposedly quit his job because Michelle Obama’s efforts at promoting healthy eating habits was at odds with how he practiced his craft. He was quoted as saying “I don’t want to demonize cream, butter, sugar and eggs” and that “he was forced by Mrs. Obama and her healthy eating cohorts to replace “the usual blitzkrieg” of butter, cream and other like ingredients with fruit purees, honey or agave”, though she did it with humor and without preaching. She was made to sound like the pastry equivalent of the ‘soup Nazi’ in Seinfeld, shouting “No rich pastries for you!”

But it turns out that rather than leaving because he resented this push for healthy foods, he left for many reasons, some personal, but one of which was that Michelle Obama’s food initiative inspired him to try out a new venture.

He gave a lengthy phone interview to Marian Burros of The New York Times upon the announcement of his departure. Its lead notes that the first lady is indeed the reason – but because she’s piqued his interest in the relationship between food and health.

Yosses said he’s moving to New York after he departs the White House in June and hopes to put together a foundation or some sort of organization that promotes “delicious food as healthy food,” according to the Times. There are also family reasons for the change: His husband of three years, Charlie Jandusay Fabella Jr., lives in New York.

Yosses said that he thinks food knowledge, as in the culinary arts, should be taught in schools. He added that for formal occasions, 20 percent of desserts are still old-style cream-heavy and that he does not want to “demonize” the ingredients that go into those, given their tastiness. But he has worked with Mrs. Obama to add fruit purée and other healthier ingredients that are still appetizing.

Fortunately, all these efforts to attack Michelle Obama seem to be falling flat.

I’m surprised that their children haven’t been under vicious attack by the right wing.

Or am I just not listening to the correct sources?

As long as the cons can remind their sort that she’s black then their message is getting through to their chosed audience so anything that allows a photo of her is fair game.

And yes, I’ve heard attacks on the kids too from Michael Savage and other extreme nucases.
