Finally, biblical prophecy come true!

Religious people who claim that their holy books contain prophecies that have been fulfilled have a hard time explaining how it does not say anything about the internet, smartphones, planes and other revolutionary current technologies. Everything in those books, even the prophecies, is consistent with just the knowledge that people had in those times.

But in this article that deals with the problem of people in church using their smartphones and iPads to surf the web, text friends, and play games during religious services, one person sees the bright side and says that now having the world of information at their fingertips was foretold by god.

“I see development of technology as the fulfillment of a Judeo-Christian prophecy,” said Tracy Cowdell, a regional LDS leader in Sandy.

“Isaiah, who spoke of our time, said: ‘The Earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.’

Who knew that the widespread and easy availability of pornography was part of the ‘knowledge of the Lord’ that would fill the Earth?

The availability of internet porn has all but put the dirty book stores out of business.

Might explain why Utah has the highest consumption of internet porn in the USA.

    Three hour church services.

The ones that deal purely in dirty media, sure. The local adult store where I like to go, however, doesn’t seem in danger of closing.

Personally, I like being able to handle the toys before buying.

Well, the bible does command us to “be fruitful and multiply”.

“Isaiah, who spoke of our time”?

The quote is from Isaiah 11:9. But before that there is

11:6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
11:7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
11:8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.

If all that is happening in our time, I would really like to know where. I’ve always wanted to see a cockatrice.

Considering that technology in the form of smart phones, t’internet, etc. has turned a vast swathe of the population into shuffling zombies with no concept of social skills or manners and a need to have everything NOW, I’d say Revelations was closer to true prophecy; …for the Devil sends the beast with wrath because he knows the time is short’.

  7. aziraphale says

Acolyte of Sagan, the phrase “the now generation” dates from 1965-70, before all the technology you mention. I’m sure the concept is even older.

The best part is that the prophecies of Daniel (upon which the whole body of lies rests) are pretty clearly backdated. It’d be like if I decided I was going to prophesy, today, how the US’ history was going to go: I might do a great job on the civil war but suddenly my event horizon gets blurry when I talk about the US’ exit from Afghanistan. Biblical scholars have variously dated the authorship of Daniel, but only a completely gullible religiot would accept them as actual prophesy.

  9. Acolyte of Sagan says

From Daniel, through Nostradamus, to Mysic Meg and beyond, whilst there are gullible people just begging to be exploited, the exploiters will willingly step up to the plate.

Well, when you look at the Garden of Eden from Yahweh’s POV with a naked Adam and a naked Eve, it’s obviously the world’s first porno movie.
