Bill O’Reilly dismisses the young Republicans report

You may recall that I wrote about a recent report put out by young Republicans that surveyed the views of young people in general and what they found was that the Republican party was viewed very unfavorably, being described with words like closed-minded, racist, rigid, and old-fashioned. The young Republicans think that the party only cares about protecting those who have already made it rich and does not care about those who are still struggling to find their feet. Since almost all people, but especially the young, fall into the latter category, this has to hurt.

Bill O’Reilly interviewed two of the young Republicans who were involved with the survey and writing the report. Two things struck me about the interview. One is that O’Reilly hates reality and attacks the messengers who bring it to him, even if they are members of his favored party, and aggressively challenges their findings.

The second is how amazingly patronizing he is towards them, repeatedly interrupting them and treating them, like little kids who don’t really understand things and himself as the wise father indulging their foolish ideas. He implies that the Democrats are getting the youth vote because the young are easily fooled by flash and ignore substance. I was impressed at how the people being interviewed kept their poise and refused to get angry at being treated so disrespectfully.

No wonder the Republicans are losing the young vote.

The guests are women, so Bill’s religion requires that he condescend to them and dismiss their views.

O’Reilly’s degree of obliviousness is truly breathtaking. I am surprised that one of their replies wasn’t along the lines of “If you want to see why Republicans are losing the younger voters, just look in a mirror.”

O’Reilly has experts on board and refuses to listen to them ? That is definitely something new in the O’Reilly show. 🙂

Bill is one of those people who would turn my stomach even if I agreed with him 100% on every political issue. It never fails to amaze me that people can stand to watch him.

The Republican party is only pretending to want constructive criticism -- this makes it obvious that they’ve never intended to actually *listen* to critical opinions, and Bill here cares more about talking than listening. It’s great news though, since it looks like in the long run, the party is doomed.

“The tide goes in, the tide goes out, you can’t explain it. ” A statement like this tells us all we want to know about Billo the clown.

When that report came out, it seemed way too good. Like there’s a clear and obvious way the republican party can really take hold and win people over in my opinion. Scary thought.

But then I realized that they really can’t get rid of the crazies, and they can’t get them to shut up. They’re just such a significant and powerful portion of their base. Made me realize that republican party isn’t going to be that successful at changing.

Instead, they seem to continue doing this whole voter disenfranchisement route…
