Given the absurd levels of secrecy of the US government that has accelerated under the current administration, whistleblowers are one of the few ways we get to learn about government abuses. But they pay a severe price for doing so, having the government’s massive prosecutorial apparatus thrown at them, part of the government’s strategy to discourage others from following their lead.
Robert Greenwald of the Brave New Foundation is releasing a new documentary titled War on Whistleblowers: Free Press and The National Security State on this topic.
Greenwald practices a form of guerilla journalism, producing documentaries quickly on important topical issues and releasing them on DVDs to be promoted by those interested. I saw his Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism and it was very good.
Here’s the trailer for the latest one on whistleblowers which should be released soon.
