Lilly Ledbetter on The Colbert Report

The very first law that Barack Obama signed after he was sworn in in 2009 was the Lilly Ledbetter Act, named after the woman who sued her employer after she discovered that her male colleagues had for years been getting paid much more than her for the same work.

The laws was passed as a consequence of the US Supreme Court 2007 ruling 5-4 against her, saying that she should have sued as soon as she received her first paycheck with the discrepancy and that it was now too late. This was preposterous since she did not know until much later what was going on. Congress passed the act to redress that kind of monstrous injustice.

It was nice to see her being interviewed on The Colbert Report.
