Biography

Chris Rodda is the author of Liars For Jesus: The Religious Right's Alternate Version of American History and Debunking David Barton's Jefferson Lies: #2 - Jefferson Founded a Secular University. Since the release of Liars For Jesus in 2006, Chris has been blogging at Talk2Action.org, Huffington Post, and elsewhere about the use of historical revisionism in everything from education to legislation. Chris's blog on Freethoughtblogs.com will eventually accompany a weekly podcast, "This Week in Christian Nationalism," if Chris can ever find the time to launch it. In the meantime, the name of her blog will continue to make no sense. Chris is also the Senior Research Director for the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), but the opinions expressed by her on this blog are her personal opinions, and not necessarily those of MRFF.

Religion in the Military — It’s ‘Tradition’

A few years back, Congressman Randy Forbes (R-VA) and his Congressional Prayer Caucus made it one of their big issues to protect a “traditional” flag folding ceremony at military funerals. In this ceremony, each of the thirteen folds to fold the flag into a triangle is accompanied by a recitation of a meaning assigned to …

Barton Admits Getting Gun-Toting Students Story from Louis L’Amour, but it’s OK Because L’Amour Said it Really Happened

So, David Barton, in an article on his WallBuilders website, has finally responded to the question of where he got the story he told on Glenn Beck’s web-based TV show about a classroom full of gun-toting elementary school students saving their teacher from a gunman in the 1850s. As suspected, the story did come from …

David Barton Claims That Gun Accidents Just Didn’t Happen in the Founding Era — Yeah, Right

After a decade of debunking pseudo-historian David Barton’s claims about American history, it’s pretty hard for anything that comes out of his pie hole to surprise me, but even I was taken aback by the utter preposterousness of one of his latest claims — that gun accidents just didn’t happen in the founding era! Explaining …
