Sigh. Mt. Rushmore is in South Dakota, which of course has no border with Canada. The appropriate caption is “The back side of Mt. Rushmore”. I think I have a copy of the MAD magazine in which it first appeared.

Sigh. Canada can see that side from their house…

Small pet peeve: I hate it when people spell “Goddammit” as “Goddamnit”.

  5. 5

@4, why? It’s a quickly said ‘god damn it’ after all.

@1 – Tou’re being a bit too literal as the joke has nothing to do with being able to see Mt. Rushmore from Canada but with those presidents showing their backsides to Canada. Subtle I know but uhhh, International relations and all. You know.

  7. 7

I coulda sworn I closed that tag.

@1 isn’t literal enough – Mt Rushmore faces east, so it’s really more the view that Cheney gets from Wyoming…

The presidents look to the west, so they show their butts to East River (a ref erence any West River South Dakotan understands). As for no Canadian border, a surprising number of Americans call the area Dakota without realizing there are two states (can I get a “woo-woo” people from North & South Carolina). Finally, the “I think we’re somewhere behind Mt Rushmore” Tshirts (and variants) started appearing in the 70s, along with the “Even the best people get stoned” shirts. Not sure when Mad did it.

#9 jakc: The presidents look to the west

    WTF dude?

  11. 11

The four heads on Mt Rushmore are facing the west Reginald.

No they are not, jakc. And repeating your incorrect assertion will not make it true.

Actually, check Google Earth, they face directly Southeast.

Its a conspiracy there is no North and South Dakota, there is only a state called Dakota. They just invented North Dakota so they could say they are South Dakota and are not the least visited sate in the Union, and they doubled their representation in the US Senate. They just maintain 60 shills as part of the conspiracy who travel around claiming they are from North Dakota.

I mean has anyone ever visited North Dakota, and if you say you have you are just part of the 60 that is in the conspiracy.

Anytime I post on a Beck-Barton page or site and use the names Roger Williams and John Leland, my post are deleted and I am banned. They will leave ad hominem and criticism of their facts, but urgently remove post about early Baptist and their mission of faith known as Individual Liberty of Conscience. I believe they fear this type of discussion and it needs to be brought to them. The early secularist need to be heard.
