I thought this whole “overdub this Hitler scene” meme had been finished and wasn’t being done any more?
It didn’t really work for me – meaning to be clear that I saw and heard it okay but it just didn’t work for me as comedy or satire and just fell flat. Sorry.

Thanks for posting. I can’t get enough of these parodies, in fact, thanks to them I actually watched the film they come from “Downfall” which is a good movie, worth watching.

I can somehow understand why these would be hilarious, but understanding the language completely kills the joke for me :)

So even progressives can be racist against speakers of languages that are not english.
Even my rudimentary understanding of German makes this meme hard to understand since the german audio is easily understood.

This comment borders on trivializing the experience of people who actually experience racism.
For full disclosure –
I am a pasty-pale middle aged American of mixed mainly European descent who has been mistaken for German or Polish in certain contexts (even though neither of those nationalities is a major part of my ancestry).
I don’t speak German. I do speak French and Spanish, both badly, and I could find it funny to see a video in French with funny English subtitles that aren’t what the French is saying, but fit the tone of voice and facial expression.
I can’t stand anti-German bigotry, which is surprisingly rare considering the history of Germany, but which is encountered once in a while.
I love Bruno Ganz in “Downfall”. I think it is an all time great cinematic performance.
I personally find almost all of the “Hitler Reacts to Whatever” meme videos hilarious. I laughed at this and laugh every time I see one.
I just love that scene. It is powerful, terrifying, and moving in the film. It is also, like many scenes of intense emotion, a setup for parody. There is no contradiction between admiring the original work of art and finding its use in satire or parody entertaining, as well.

I always laugh at these clips too, no matter the ‘topic’ that Hitler is supposedly ranting about.
At the risk of appearing a different kind of Nazi, why are they never proof-read too well? This one has ‘responsibly’ instead of ‘responsibility’.
On the Nazi flag in Afghanistan situation: if those American soldiers really did make such an innocent mistake, is it not frightening that America sends such stupid people carrying guns into other countries?

As a German of the pasty variety, I don’t perceive these videos as anti-German bigotry at all and of course they are not racist (why would they?!) (and I agree that considering our history, we can be grateful about how rare it indeed is). That interpretation wouldn’t make sense. There are much more blatant Hitler satires around.
If anything, once could argue that hitler satires trivialize nazi terror, but I think that is usually not the case.

Dismissing ignorance of history as an excuse by concluding that the Marines, themselves, went on-line and bought the flag themselves…
Uh…….maybe somebody SENT it TO them? There goes the theory that they “must have known since they (obviously) went to the website…” It COULD have happened that way…..And, yes, those Marines REALLY could be lacking a basic (or advanced) knowledge of history… but, you DO say that…
So, with incomplete information, the casual reader (not you, I hope) invariably will draw the desired conclusion-that Marines (and by extension all Veterans) are to be reviled, blah, blah, blah.
Mr. Rodda, you are an idiot.

Greg Laden –
It’s available streaming on Netflix, and probably also in other places.
Johnnyautonomous –
I don’t think you’re an idiot, but you appear to be defensive and paranoid, and prone to blatant false dichotomy thinking.
Really? That’s it? Those are the only two choices? Marine units can use Nazi flags, or we revile all marines and veterans?
