Howdy, Heathens

Hello to all of you heathens checking out this great new site on Day 1.

Ran into a bit of a snag posting my first post here, due to YouTube’s new guilty until proven innocent policy when it comes to videos containing copyrighted material, so, while we’re working out a way for me to post the video that I was going to post, I figured I’d entertain and/or annoy everybody with my extremely cheesy rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. (I actually painted that shirt in the video to look like a David Barton shirt, before getting the authentic flag shirt from Texas that I now wear when I want to make fun of overly patriotic idiots who wear flag shirts.)

Glad to see you blogging here. I’ve long admired your dismantlings of pseudohistory, and I hope to learn from your blog.

Glad you have a blog now! Your book is a valuable resource and I keep a copy on my Android phone (via Kindle) so it’s available at a moment’s notice.

I love Telecasters. ’69 Thineline reissue, right? What amp are you using?

I think it might be a ’72 reissue, but I’m not sure. I used to have the other model with the humbuckers, which I know was a ’72 reissue. As far as the amp goes, you’re gonna laugh at what I was using. I wanted this to be a bit cheesy and sound really horrible on the high notes, so I used one of those little battery powered portable Marshall amps. When I really used to play, I used TubeWorks stuff. I had a friend down in Atlanta years ago who had an endorsement deal with Mosvalve/TubeWorks, and loved the stuff he had, so the next amp I bought was a TubeWorks. I still have it — a 100 watt TubeWorks amp with the extension speaker, but I haven’t had that thing out in a very long time.

I used to think the SPB was a terrible song to have as a national anthem because it was about war, but these days I realize the war is far from over, and may never be over. The forces that want to reverse what little social progress made since 1776 are still here and still a threat.

Looking forward to your blog. I am a big fan of history and I HATE it when someone tries to change it, sans evidence, for purely political reasons. (Pro tip for the rabid end of the Right: if you have to tell lies to bolster your view of the world, your view of the world is wrong. Just saying.)

Looks like the second day is a bit smoother than the first. All the blogs are loading, and I can log in to comment. I remember when the Republicans were all upset about flag clothing. They were all screaming about desecrating the flag and all…apparently it’s okay for Republicans to wear the flag but not anyone else. Haven’t read your blogs before but I’m in the group who will be checking yours regularly.

That doesn’t sound very cheesy. Cheesiness fail. :P We want more music vids. :D
