I’m extremely comforted that the lessons learned at Fort Bragg’s MASH are contagious. Once you organize, a meaningful community quickly follows. It’s amazing how fast Travis Air Force Base organized into something with tangible accomplishments, like the first ever atheist holiday display on a military base – next to the Nativity Scene and Menorah. USAF …

Visual representation of atheists fighting for equality and winning
This is a before and after shot documenting the rapid changes the commanders at Travis Air Force Base are implementing. I made Dan Rawlings’ quite legitimate ‘Let there be light…’ complaint public on Wednesday morning. The picture at the bottom represents Wednesday night. Click to embiggen. Foxhole atheists are demanding equality at every step. This …

Agnostic from Travis Air Force Base hates mockery, can’t spell ‘atheist’
The sign says “Have a safe holiday season”. But you’d think it said “I toss Christians into the Sun”, judging from the butt hurt coming out of this self identified ‘agnostic’ also stationed at Travis AFB (verified) who hated the signs. “I think it’s more than a bit funny that you **NEED** christianity in order to define your faith …

Travis Air Force Base now ensures uniformed lighting for holiday displays
American Atheists donated the twice-vandalized holiday sign to Staff Sergeant Dan Rawlings and the atheists at Travis MASH. The sign simply says “Have a safe holiday season – from the atheists at Travis MASH”. Rawlings remained in constant contact with me and described each step of his wildly successful efforts for equality. As we mentioned earlier, …

Let there be light, and a lot more of it for baby Jesus
Fresh off of being vandalized, the officials at Travis Air Force Base secure the lighting for the atheist sign. Sounds good right? Well like many parts of the story, it’s once again 2 steps forward, one step back. Progress, but seriously… what the hell? They took down his 120 watt bulb, and replaced it with …

Air Force’s Nativity Scene is now joined by the Flying Spaghetti Monster
This sign was finally put up by the atheists at Travis Air Force Base, donated by American Atheists. Click to embiggen Staff Sergeant Dan Rawlings is brave enough to do this without anonymity. The fight has not been easy. This ‘win’ is still bittersweet, as the atheists responsible are still banned from meeting on post. …

Air Force censors the atheist holiday display
Air Force officials have at Travis AFB are at it again, but probably not in the way you’d expect. Take a look. This sign was at first banned by the chaplaincy. Then the media and legal attention made them reverse their decision a few days later. Now they want the (already printed) sign to be …

Important / FAQs
For Military service members
- How do I fix my official records to say 'ATHEIST'?
In just 5 minutes you can change your records. Walk-throughs provided for all DoD branches. Air Force Navy and Marine Corps can do so online.
- Why should I avoid "NO-REL-PREF" as my religious preference on my official records?
This is a debate-ending reason to fix your records. Also, NRP is just incorrect. Atheists don't have a religion, however, you *do* have a preference about religion.
- How can I avoid saying "So help me god?" and avoid signing contracts with the phrase?
Many service members respectfully refuse, and they are fully within their legal rights to do so. You may face some flack from uninformed superiors, but you will definitely win any challenge they throw at you. Contact me if you need to.
- How one NCO got prayer removed from ceremonies.
Not all service members will have this opportunity but if you are in a position to make a difference, this is a play-by-play of an epic victory.
[Expect this list to grow quite a bit.]
For Civilians
- How can civilians help foxhole atheists?
In as little as 30 seconds you can make a huge difference. Add your phone call or email to a stack of other voices demand justice.
- I like to click on things - can I help?
Yes! Use those sharing buttons, help us spread the word. Join the American Atheists Military facebook group to directly interact with a large number of foxhole atheists. Like the RBB page for blog-post and festival-related discussion.
- How can civilians help to make it safer for service members to be openly atheist?
Show up to Rock Beyond Belief 2 at Camp Pendleton (San Diego, CA).Be a part of history, and stand with us in solidarity in great numbers.
- I hate all of you military thugs, what should I do?
Read this. If you still feel a burning desire to argue with or mock us, please leave your comment in that thread.

Even more Facepalm
A really awesome Facebook group, American Atheists Military is uniting service members, veterans and supportive civilians. This is where a lot of important issues are first discovered, and brought to light. There is a constant stream of foxhole atheists correcting their dog tags to say 'ATHEIST' and putting them up on the wall. Throw yours up there! No 'anti-war' or 'anarchist' trolling, please.
