I assume that Tebow is the guy on the right? Only a “straight” Christian would pose for a picture in skin tight pants translucent enough to show off the straps of his jock.
As for your question, Tillman, no doubt.

I don’t really follow NFL (although I might now that I know they play in see through pants), but does Tebow equate his Christianity with patriotism? Are those two things linked in his mind?

Tebow is doing an excellent job of energizing the Broncos.
And I admire and am thankful for Tillman’s service.
Both seem to be pretty good and inspiring guys.
I’m guessing both of their patriotism is/was pretty strong.

Tebow will have his moment of infamy, the self-congratulatory always do. Ted Haggard and George Rekers got outed with gay prostitutes, Tiger Woods got caught with porn stars, Newt Gingrich was having an affair while trying to impeach Clinton for a blowjob, Mark Foley got caught trying to diddle with teenage boys, etc. ad nauseum.
It’s not a matter of _if_ Tebow gets caught doing something unsavory. It’s a matter of _when_ and _what_ he was doing.
People who go around claiming “moral superiority” are compensating for their own unethical behaviour in private. It’s just another form of “methinks he doth protest too much”.

Tillman gave up his football career, with no idea if he could ever continue it later, to serve his country. Tebow prays. How is prayer patriotic? I think the indicator of which man is more patriotic is obvious.

In interest of full disclosure: I’m an atheist, I live in the Santa Clara Valley, California, which Tillman called home, and I don’t in general follow football but have been subjected to Tebow’s religious dramatical activities via my local news channel. Perhaps I judge him unfairly, but recalling my Christian upbringing, I’d have to label him a pharisee with his public show of prayer.

Doesn’t their book tell them that prayer should be a discreet and private thing, not something to be flaunted in the face of as many people as possible? Tim Tebow -- self-aggrandizing jerk; Pat Tillman -- honorable patriot, in my opinion.

Tillman is obviously the more patriotic of the two, and frankly his death in combat in Afghanistan deprived us of one of our most outstanding young men. I believe that had he survived his tour, he would have gone on to become a significant leader in our country, and would have accomplished far more than just being a football player.
Having said that, I am starting to find the Tebow bashing a little over the top. Personally, I don’t see much difference between Tebow’s praying and the usual displays of crotch-grabbing, booty-shaking, bleacher-jumping, finger pointing, crowd-baiting, trash talking, and other “look at me” nonsense that athletes seem obligated to perform whenever they do something even mildly noteworthy. And yet Tebow gets singled out for it, far more than do the other offenders. It all makes me miss guys like Barry Sanders, who went simply handed the ball to the referee after a touchdown. Whatever happened to that?

C’mon geocatherder,
First of all, nice nickname.
Second of all, I’m an atheist as well, but how can you _not_ like Tebow? He exudes character, respect, work ethic, perseverance, and humility, qualities that are all too scarce in today’s pro athletes. In fact, his public displays of religion usually come across as expressions of humility, at least in my view. From watching his interviews, those displays serve as a means to ground himself, to keep his balance, when asked questions by a reporter that could be either ego-inflating after a win, or soul-crushing after a loss.
Plus, he’s just a football player. Now, if he were campaigning to be a high ranking elected official with tangible, significant influence over people’s lives, then yeah, I might have a problem with his religious views, but he’s not, so I don’t…
