It would be fucken awesome to be able to fly like that. Damn shame that the technology wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the need/desire to kill people as efficiently as possible.

Last summer we were standing on the rim of the Columbia River gorge in central Washington state and a couple of those jets — F/A-18′s — came by. Well down in the canyon, so that we were looking at the top of them. The canyon makes a 90 degree turn at that point, so did the jets. The whole encounter didn’t last but about 15 seconds before they were gone.
