Libertarian Psychology

Being an ugly troglodyte who can’t get laid is what turns losers into libertarians.

I’ve known some libertarians who aren’t ugly troglodytes. However, they seem to have contradictory attitudes toward authority. The inimitable @SusanOfTexas once said: “Libertarians are authoritarian followers who believe they are authoritarian leaders.” I think this captures the odd delusion and un-groundedness one sees in them. There’s nothing wrong with being a follower, and our society requires many more followers than leaders. Most of us are followers. But they can’t deal with self-knowledge and have to make up stories about themselves.

It is a natural fact, I-storm. Dewds’ inability to get laid is at the root of most of their pathologies.

You are very confused. The issue isn’t whether libertarians do or don’t get laid. The issue is that they can’t get laid, because they are intellectually, emotionally, socially, and ethically stunted people who are repugnant to normal decent people.

That’s not what you said. You said his inability to get laid is what turned him Libertarian. I’m telling you that you are offensive and patriarchal in your word choice. This is not my “poor reading comprehension.” This is your offensive white d00dly word choice. You get no cookies today.

CPP, Isis has a point and that isn’t what you originally posted. The post said that being ugly and not getting laid (these were implicitly linked) were the cause of people becoming libertarians. So the argument was very much “they need a lay”. DM’s too, even more directly. I’m all for hating on libertarians but body-shaming, compulsory sexuality and all this are bullshit, even in jest.

Also, sorry to tell ya Comradde PhysioProffe, but some libertarians do get laid… and remain libertarian after that experience.

I used to find a lot of this picking on ugly small govt types a lot of fun. Until I watched “The One Percent” a documentary against income inequality by Jamie Johnson. At one point he interviews Nobel Laureate Milton Friedman, who asks Johnson if he had read his book “Capitalism and Freedom”, it was obvious that Jamie had not read it “cover to cover”.

This sparked me to ask myself: “Have I EVER read the other side’s argument?” After reading Naomi Klein’s “Shock Doctrine” and Krugman’s “Conscience Of A Liberal” I was convinced the other side was self serving and greedy, but I began to think I was selectively informing myself. So I decided to actually read Friedman’s book to be more thorough before I too got into some awkward interview or posted anymore anti-libertardian stuff myself.

After reading it, I now cringe when blog posts come up like this. I can’t believe how far off we liberals are about libertarians. It’s just a shame. The libertarians are not the most well spoken bunch, but wow, that book really made a lot more sense then the things I keep reading on blogs and news sites.

If you haven’t read something more official than a libertarians comments some website, please pick up a book and be sure you actually know what you are ridiculing. People can be wrong about things, like very wrong, despite have a strong convictions about their position, just remember Mark Lynas and the importance of actually reading the other side’s position:

“So I did some reading. And I discovered that one by one my cherished beliefs about GM turned out to be little more than green urban myths.” -Mark Lynas
