   that’s totally what I did when I was twelve and had a crush on a girl; looking inward and asking if maybe there are reasons under my control that have made me less appealing than I might otherwise be. Or I’d punch her in the arm and run away.

   When I got rejected by a girl at age 12, I also decided in a fit of pique to devote my entire life to serving a massive system of organized misogyny, hatred for women, and oppression. Only I was already an atheist, and something of an anarchist, so I had to invent my own system of organized misogyny, hatred for women and oppression. But then a girl let me kiss her and my system rapidly became disorganized. Then I grew up.

   If you read the article, it explains she rejected him because of family opposition, not because of any fault of his. Her father hit her because she was getting notes from a boy when she was 12. Way to ignore something horrible.

   *ahem* Yes. Now, Pope or no, if you were intellectually honest enough to get past the *first fucking paragraph* then you may notice information you previously overlooked (or ignored) and you just might avoid looking like an idiot.

   I’ll just highlight the relevant quotes:

   The woman, Amalia Damonte, 76, said that the young Jorge Mario Bergoglio, when they were both just 12 years old in the Buenos Aires suburb of Flores, declared: “If I can’t marry you, I’ll become a priest.”

   However on Thursday, speaking from her home in Flores, an emotional Amalia said that the “romance” did not prosper because of the opposition of her parents.
   “When we were young, he wrote me a letter and I didn’t reply to him. What I wanted was for him to disappear from the map. My father had hit me because I had dared to write a note to a boy.

   What’s that? Her father interfering?

   “He had drawn for me (in the letter) a house which had a red roof and said that it was the house he was going to buy for me when we were married.
   “I never saw him after that – my parents kept me away from him and did everything possible to separate us.”

   Dearie me. Yes, because the girl was struck and seperated from the boy, then obviously there has to be something wrong with the boy. Or they’re twelve years old and the girl’s parents were authoritarian and cruel. Quite the conundrum there, Mr. Professor. But it turns out that the new Pope didn’t want to be Pope in the first place, and apparently cares for his sister very much, and she him:

   She spoke as the only remaining sibling of the new pontiff confided in her that he never wanted to become the leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics.
   María Elena Bergoglio, 12 years the junior of the 76-year-old pontiff, said he never wanted to be pope and now faced a lifetime of “infinite loneliness”.

   “He didn’t want to be Pope and when we chatted privately about it, we joked at the prospect and he would say ‘no, please no’,” she told The Daily Telegraph.
   “I didn’t want him to become Pope because he’s going to be very far away and second because it is such a large responsibility.
   “But I am also totally proud that he is the new Pope – because he’s the first from outside Europe, because he’s Latin American, he’s Argentine and he”s my brother.”

   But? Misogyny? Resentment? He hates women. He must. Comradde said so. What’s that? Comradde has got it all wrong? Who knew.

   Wow, what a lot of typing to defend the indefensible.

   The proffe might be wrong about the backstory, but the fact is that anyone willing to become the worldwide head of an organization that routinely discriminates against women, and claims that such discrimination is somehow ordained by god, is, almost by definition, misogynistic. And a nasty motherfucker. Whether the 12 year old girl had anything to do with it or not.
