How come this fine, thought-provoking post didn’t make PZ’s list of recommended links in “Around FTB”?

  3. dab says

Maybe PZ is embarrassed at having agreed to let this guy have a room here at FtB since almost all he ever does is to shout frothing obscenities out of the window at unsuspecting passers-by. We can hope, anyway.

OMG!! That man wrote a nasty word!

Quick hand me those pearls. I feel a clutching coming on.

    Heavens!

Get over your disingenuous self. I don’t give a shit about swearing in moderation – in fact, I specifically approve of it in the right contexts – but this guy just farts out hundreds of expletives laced with ye olde Englishe as he fails to control his tempter and expects people to eat it up. This stuff belongs on Twitter, and even then, barely.

  6. Trebuchet says

@#8: Where did I say anything about obscenity? It’s the utter lack of content here that gets me.

    DrugMoney:

    “Tempter”?

Hey, yeah! Pointing out something that was obviously an honest mistake totally defeats me and absolves you all of any obligation to deal with the actual points in my posts. I now flee, vanquished by the combined intellect of CPP and his entourage.

  8. dab says

Fair enough. Things might have been more interesting if it were!

CPP’s latest post about MOOCs is a rare glimpse of the right stuff: angry but explanatoryj retains reasoning and focus rather than throwing them overboard merely to fit in more stylised swearing; justified anger that doesn’t lose its direction. That’s the kind of thing I could see myself reposting (not implying I’m an authority).

I have no doubt that CPP is capable of great posts; heck, I’ve even seen a couple that probably qualify for that label (to those who understand the subject matter, which I freely admit I don’t!). And sure, I shouldn’t expect total seriousness and methodical analyses for things like rants about kids at a sports game. But I just don’t see the right ratio of these differing ingredients on an overall scale.

But yeah, he’ll either change or he won’t, and the group of people who think things are OK the way they are presumably won’t change their minds either; my posts probably aren’t going to change much in either of those contexts. So, I’ll stop gibbering and just wait to see if any more posts with actual content roll around.

    Me:

CPP’s latest post about MOOCs is a rare glimpse of the right stuff

. . . an hour or so later, and its successor is another good example of the much more familiar wrong stuff: reflexive – nay, reactionary – ranting with no substance to back it up. Shocking twist!

But I just don’t see the right ratio of these differing ingredients on an overall scale.

You are mind-bogglingly confused if you think that I give even the slightest infinitesimal iota of a shitte what you consider “the right stuff” or the “right ratio”.

  11. dab says

As I presumed would be clear – and as should be the standard assumption for anything expressed by anyone without explicit qualification otherwise – such sentiments reflect my personal opinion, not any expectation or obligation put upon you. So, no, I’m not mind-bogglingly confused at all.
