I would be interested to see a timeline (from 1982 or so to present) of PhysioProf’s assessment of Madonna’s art and cultural impact. However, I recognize that this timeline might cause the universe to split in half, so I’m not going to beg.

She was. I would kill to have her physique at that age. Hell, any age.

Is it sexist/ageist to say she was boring and wooden and I almost passed out?

Yes, she was. And the level of disgusting invective about her online is turning my stomach. She’s a whore. She’s an old hag. She can’t sing (yeah, she lip-synced on her new song, but the rest of it was real. I’ve been to every one of her shows since 1993 and I remember the days when she lip synced. She doesn’t any more. She actually took time to work on her voice and become competent live). She can’t hit the beat (what?). She “looks 60.” Huh? She needs to hang it up because she’s a worn-out prostitute.
Jesus Christ. You would never, ever, ever, ever hear that kind of vicious and real hate directed at a man. Sure, people will joke that the Stones look a little craggy, but this is full on, no-holds-barred shaming misogyny.
You don’t have to like Madonna. You might find her irritating or boring. Fine. But when people hate her so much that they actually flat out lie about her not hitting notes or “barely moving on the stage” (yeah, someone really wrote that) it’s beyond bizarre. It takes concentrated contempt to be that dishonest.

As someone borne the same year she was, 1958, I wish I were in her shape. As a musician, I wish I had her talent and certainly, her success. I guess I’ll just have to continue slinging code. Oh well

I turned on the Game Show Network at halftime. Wasn’t a fan back when she first broke in, am not a fan now. As far as her physique — well, I don’t think Sylvester Stallone can act, either. Her workout habits are orthogonal to her talent as a musician (which, IMHO, is slim).
Frankly, the whole half-time musical extravaganza thing is really jarring — to say nothing of disruptive to the game itself. And the choice of performers seems like it’s aimed squarely at “old fart” demographics. There’s a problem there if your audience is juiced about seeing a 1980s (or earlier) “star” perform.

For me, it’s the opposite–the game is disruptive to the halftime show. :) A friend sent me a text message when Madonna took the stage, so I switched over. When she finished, I went back to watching old Office re-runs on dvd. I don’t even know who won the game.
Madonna rocked it.

Yeah, she rocked it! Her show was very Gaga-esque (hahah just fucking with you…).
The husband and I (late 20-somethings) thought it was the best 1/2time show we can remember. But we are Madonna generation so not too surprising.

Agreed, Madonna was great. And, I despise the word skank, especially when used to describe a woman. It’s a shitty word too often associated with females that are sexually liberal.

I’m totally with you, Comradde. Awesome, over-the-top, queer as fuck ridiculousness with a dash of that guy who danced on top of a tightrope. And the complete non sequitur of “World Peace” in lights at the end. Best halftime show EVER, esp because there is NO COMPETITION IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF HALFTIME SHOWS.

Speaking of the good old days, two people who could actually sing like motherfuckers. And it was kinda clouded by the image crap and videos. Cyndi Lauper and George Michael. You have not lived until you’ve listened to a Faith 45 spun at 33!!!!!

The sponsored link that showed up when I clicked on this was “60 year old mom looks 25″ …
Anyway, the only current pop person who comes close to Madonna as a performer is Lady Gaga, and Madonna did really rock the half-time show.

Wow, this Madonna character has caused quite a stir. Love her or hate her, seems like everybody’s got an opinion of her.
Maybe I should go check out her act after all…

Yeah, she was badass. Because we all know lip synching to electronic music takes so goddamn much talent. At least she wasn’t as bad as the Blackeyed Peas. Madonna was only the second worst Super Bowl halftime show of all time.
